I remember one of my first teachers saying "An actor should be a blank canvas." And this made sense at first. So I went up on our small stage to do a monologue and it was terrible. My teacher said, "Kamil, you didn't really do anything." "Well, yeah? I am a blank canvas" As a neurodiverse person, I am overanalytical, literal, incredibly anxious and have difficulty speaking with full confidence. However, my Master's level education from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School has given me a toolkit where I can work towards placing my self-doubt and uncertainty behind 'The Work.' The Work is the hours you've spent in the text, the pencil markings in the script, the crinkled pages from taking it in and out of your backpack. It's the objective truth that you can rely on when your self-awareness doesn't want you to be the character, when you can feel an audience member looking at you, when the person behind the camera laughs at something you didn't inherently think was funny. It's your character's lifesaver. For those that may require more structure when they receive text, I can help you deconstruct that overwhelming building into its key components. My class is for anyone interested in music as a tool for life. The focus is to learn how to play an instrument and also cultivate mindfulness habits. I have taught with my own method for 20 years to hundreds of students from all walks of life. We start our session with a short mindfulness exercise and then you'll learn how to play your chosen instrument through your favourite songs. If you're interested we can also then start to learn how to write songs and even record them!
