Trained at the conservatory, then at the Progressive Drum School, I then sought to improve myself by taking private lessons from references such as Loïc Pontieux, Franky Costanza, Kevin Reveyrend or Franck Aghulon.

I have taught drums and music theory to students of all ages, all levels and in different contexts: recreational practice, exam preparation, putting on shows.

I have also conducted musical workshops for organizations such as youth centers, elementary or nursery schools, and social centers, for projects ranging from musical awareness to the production of shows or music videos.

I therefore have very comprehensive teaching experience and know how to adapt to different audiences.

Now being a full-time professional musician, I also want to share my professional experience with students.

During my teaching career I have questioned myself a lot about the problem of the teaching method because there is no single model of student and giving a course is not just giving a list of exercises. So I try to understand the student and advise him on the best method and the best pace of practice.

I am Thijs (30) an experienced drummer and musician, with a wide range of musical interests. Studying jazz drums under the wings of Lander Gyselinck at the KASK/Conservatory in Ghent. In addition, I have followed masterclasses and lessons from/with Joey Baron (US), Kendrick Scott (US), Corey Fonville (US) and Stéphane Galland (BE). I am also active in various bands/groups.

The course method, inspired by the Agostini school (French method used in French and Belgian academies and conservatories) is divided between technique and drums. At the rate of one session each we will focus once on technique and movements outside the drums (on pads) and the other time on the drums and the application of technique and movements.

-> The technique lessons and the movements will be those of the so-called 'Moeller technique' that I learned through his direct lineage of student.
-> The drum lessons are greatly inspired by the pedagogy of the M.A.I. (Music Academy International - Nancy (fr)) and in particular that of Richard-Paul Morellini, renowned instructor.

The courses are complete, in-depth but above all specifically thought of to be progressive. They are suitable for children from 7 years old as well as adults of all ages.

=> Particular attention is paid to the movements and their correct application, to the total independence of the limbs and finally to an understanding of the rhythm and its theory. My main goal is to give the student complete control behind the drums and skills to be able to self-learn any piece in any musical style. 1 hour of weekly lessons are never enough, they should only be used to fuel the passion that will make you play at home more and more.

On demand or for advancs students:
- I am very passionate about the study of South American rhythms. Due to their complexity, apart from the samba and Baïon ostinatos, they are not included in the program before the advanced level. They can be at the request of the student.
- I am also specialized in metal (musical style) and double pedal. The latter is not included in the program unless requested by the student. The double pedal courses are based on the methodology of Virgil Donati.

* Snare rudiments and their applications through reading systems
