Do you need to improve your English so that you can participate fluently and confidently in business meetings, presentations, webinars, telephone conversations or interviews? You may be aiming for a job in the EU institutions or other organisations in Brussels. Or you could be working in an international company or studying for a Masters or another qualification...

I have been a qualified, professional English teacher and translator for more than 20 years. My courses enable learners to actively produce the language, repeat useful expressions until they are habitual and correct mistakes until they are removed. Although I am happy to explain and practice grammatical issues, the focus is on effective, correct and appropriate communication by using visual material, videos, interesting topics for discussion and challenging quizzes. As I have advanced knowledge of French, German and Czech, I can particularly appreciate and correct the issues speakers of these languages have in English, but this is also the case for Dutch speakers.

There is also the possibility of specialist English courses in the areas linked to my experience (see below): how the EU works; environmental, energy, regional or agricultural policies; economics.

- Advisor in EU policies and funding for 12 years (regional policy, economic development)
- Director of a regional representation to the EU and member of a management team
- Certificate in TESOL with business
- BA(Honours) in Modern Languages & Modern History, Oxford University
- Post-graduate in Economics, London University

About Me
I love teaching for two main reasons: firstly, it gives me the chance to see how learners progress and gain confidence - I find it very important to make people feel at ease. Secondly, I have spent most of my life living abroad (in Belgium, Germany, the Czech Republic, Italy and Lebanon) and I really value listening to other people’s opinions, how they see the world and what is important to them. My own main interests are: learning languages and about other cultures (apart from the languages above, I also have a decent intermediate knowledge of Dutch, Italian and Levantine Arabic); mountains, mountaineering and climbing; and music (I was previously a cello player in various groups and orchestras in Brussels).
Education
BA (Honours) in Modern Languages & Modern History, University of Oxford.

Post-graduate Diploma in Economics, University of London.

Certificate in TESOL with business, Global English (Grade 95%)

Advanced Czech (Université libre de Bruxelles, 2024 and 2025)
Intensive Levantine Arabic Immersion Programme, Tripoli, Lebanon.
Experience / Qualifications
Over 20 years of English teaching experience: in Brussels (in the EU Commission, Parliament and Council; in companies such as Bosch, Santander, The Boston Consulting Group, Puilaetco, Cegelec); in Prague (in Government ministries, the Senate as well as in private sector companies); in Milan (among others, Pirelli and Vileda).

I am a native English speaker from USA and I specialize in teaching, exam preparation, instruction and text correction for several students and professionals residing in Belgium.

With experience in 4 different cities across Europe and Asia, I take a multidimensional approach to my classes, tutoring and assisting with both Academic and Business English, to ensure that all my students are at ease during the lessons which results in faster improvements and undeniable results. The lessons cover various topics, mainly focusing on comprehension, reading techniques, writing skills, grammar, vocabulary, and day to day conversation along with accent training and basic language skills.

My former clients include students from middle school, high school and college as well as professionals from various occupations. I have worked with them to improve their spoken and written English. I also tutor clients who want to improve their English at an academic level for exams such as the SAT, IELTs, EPSO and TOEFL. These include high school students, college students as well as professionals, ranging from engineers to young interns at the EU parliament. I assist with exam based preparation to achieve the desired results and my clients have not been disappointed so far.

I have further proofread, edited, written and improved a large amount of essays, college applications, theses, personal statements, and assignments for various clients at an academic level.

I like to make my lessons interesting, but at the same time, I make sure that they are as productive as possible. With a thorough understanding and experience of English grammar and literature, I further take care of ghost writing, proof reading and editing of academic and professional papers. Weekly and monthly rates are possible in this case.

I have no issues meeting anywhere in Brussels, or at a location or town close to the city.
