We begin with your own philosophy reading: What kind of philosophy do you enjoy? Which author(s) would you like to discover or explore further? Which philosophical text is important to you?

From there, the challenge is to deepen and broaden your thinking by renewing the way you read philosophy, through both new approaches and new sources.

A key element of my approach is working with both contemporary materials and classical texts. I specialise in topics related to politics and ethics, while also engaging with art, science, psychology, technology, education, and more.

Of course, I am open to any philosophical interests or questions you may wish to explore. For instance, I can assist you with practical tasks that call for philosophical reflection. In short, philosophy is co-creation.

About Me

Hi, I am a young teacher, researcher, and author based in Brussels. I am passionate about many things, especially philosophy and philosophy education. I enjoy sharing that passion with others — perhaps with you?

Education

I hold a PhD in philosophy from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. The title of my dissertation was 'Spinoza, Critique and Freedom: The Tractatus Theologico-Politicus and its Contemporary Readers'. I also hold degrees in music, economics, and education.

I am an experienced teacher: for more than ten years, I have taught several subjects — including philosophy, Dutch, and music — to a wide range of groups, including adults, teenagers, and children, and in various contexts, such as private lessons, workshops, and schools. Philosophy is not inaccessible! We must find the right way to approach it and give ourselves the time to get to know it. It should not be held as a secret for a small number of people. You can benefit from it. Despite the fact that it is often considered complex enough, if you just give it a sincere essay, you might realize that you really love what it can bring you.

Learn to think with the great philosophers of the past!

In these tutorials you will learn
- about the ideas of some of the most famous and influential philosophers of the modern age,
- how to read and understand original philosophical texts,
- most importantly, how to become a critical thinker and philosophise on your own.

In ten tutorials (each two hours long), we will follow the development of modern philosophy from the 17th century to the present. We will start with Descartes, look at Spinoza, Locke, Hume, Kant, Hegel, Schopenhauer and Nietzsche, and end with Wittgenstein and Heidegger. We will cover topics in the philosophy of mind and language, in epistemology, metaphysics and ethics. We will discuss questions such as "Is the mind distinct from matter?", "Can I know anything?", "Can we distinguish between good and evil?", "Does God exist?" etc.

Note:
You can choose whether you prefer ten tutorials (each two hours long) or twenty tutorials (each one hour long).

About me:
I am a retired university professor who still enjoys teaching philosophy. I have taught many students (graduate and undergraduate) for several decades at reputable British universities. I obtained my philosophy doctorate at the University of Oxford. I have published many books and articles in philosophy. Among my favourite philosophers are Aristotle, Aquinas, Descartes, Kant, Wittgenstein and Heidegger.
