My name is Daria and I am a Language and Literature teacher. Born in the UK and raised in Sydney Australia. I am currently living in Istanbul Turkey. I am enthusiastic and passionate about the English language. I enjoy teaching through use of texts, literature and films. Students learn to use critical thinking skills. They improve their reading comprehension skills as well as writing and speaking. I obtained a BA in English literature and a PGCE. Literature was my first choice to study and the PGCE enabled me to hone my classroom management skills by using differentiated learning strategies and using both summative and formative assessment techniques. I have experience in leadership, curriculum design and excellent classroom management skills. I have use a variety of imaginative resources which are content based and encourage students to develop themselves as they study and participate in active lessons aimed at increasing their motivation and participation. I have over 20 years of experience in teaching and tutoring students of English. I enjoy planning lessons and content around individual needs and assessment. I am highly experienced in assessing and catering to different types of learners. I use innovative methods including active learning, positive reinforcement, flipped teaching strategies and project-based learning. My students learn at their own pace and achieve their own learning goals corresponding to the goals that I have set for them. I encourage students to use technology during their studies and for handing in homework. I mark homework and provide feedback both verbally and in written form every lesson. Trusted teacher: Course Description: The SAT Prep course concentrates on SAT reading, vocabulary and writing skills along with math practice. The course includes practice in taking the SAT test, as well as strategies for the question types (sentence completion, vocabulary, critical reading, and writing – finding errors / revision). In the Spring Semester, the course will focus on the new SAT test, using Kaplan,Pearson,Black Book, Khan Academy online, and classroom reading, vocabulary, grammar lessons and practice tests. Reading The goal for reading in this class is to read college level material closely and critically in order to answer difficult questions about the text. The Reading Section for the SAT requires students to answer evidence-based questions about a challenging reading selection in a timed setting. The class will prepare and practice for these reading passages and questions. Writing The goal for writing in this class is to prepare for the optional essay section on the new SAT which will be required by some colleges. Learning to plan and respond in writing quickly will help students on the SAT Writing test as well as other exams with writing including AP exams, college exams, SAT subject tests, etc. The new essay is an analysis essay based on a piece of text, so we will discuss and practice writing literary and rhetorical analysis. Math The goal for math in this class is to practice the types of questions asked on the SAT test and to learn how to avoid the most common mistakes.
