I teach piano, both classical and popular music, and music theory. I teach technique, repertoire, music theory applied to the keyboard and how to read sheet music. I particularly enjoy teaching how music works: why a certain chord progression works, the patterns behind the melodies, and the structure of a song or a piece. I think all that trains our ears to understand better the music and enjoy it even more. But if you want to go straight to playing without caring too much about that stuff, I can of course adapt to that. I also teach Music Theory as an isolated subject. In those lessons, I teach starting from basic concepts like the notes, the scales, the different rhythmic values; to more advanced stuff like harmonic analysis of complex pieces.

In 1984, I was appointed resident pianist at the Performing Arts Council of the Transvaal (PACT), where I worked closely with the ballet department and regularly performed with orchestras and ensembles. I have earned multiple certificates and awards in recognition of my outstanding contribution to music theory education. I have been teaching music as a subject from grade 8 – 12.
