Enthusiastic violin , viola and piano tutor My passion for violin started when I was 6 years old and began my studies at the prestigious school of music and art in the Republic of Moldova, country of music, good wine beautiful people and a good sense of humour. I subsequently graduated with a distinction for a Licentiate Diploma in Higher Education Music from the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts, “Gavriil Musicescu” Chisinau Republic of Moldova. During my time at the Academy, I participated in many Master classes with famous Violinists such as Charles Stewart (former member of Chilingirian Quartet) and Sandor Devich (former member of Bartok Quartet), violist Jerry Horner (former member of Fine Arts Quartet) and Cellist Laszlo Mezo (member of Bartok Quartet). After graduating, I worked in the National Opera and Ballet Orchestra for three years and joined the National Drama Theatre Chamber Orchestra “Mihai Eminescu” as well as the National Chamber Orchestra which helped me gather valuable professional experience. In 2012, I was invited to perform worldwide, including countries such as the USA, Holland, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Romania, Poland and the UK. Lesson 1 This will be an introduction to the piano. I will encourage the students to play some notes on the piano, and I will talk about the importance of time, and also the stave where different notes sit on the ledger lines. This will involve playing a couple of notes, to begin with. Due to the nature of online lessons, this will mean that there is more of an element of listening required by the students and also by myself.

Hello! My name is Julia, I started playing the piano when I was 8 and I am a this year graduate with honours of a Polish 12-year music school with the specialisation in piano, therefore I got a Polish Professional Title- Musician. Throughout the years I took part and won prizes in many piano competitions in Poland and abroad. When I was 14 I started a band with my friends and discovered my great passion for composition; since then we've signed a contract with a label, released an album and played about 300 concerts in Europe and this autumn we also have a tour planned. I grew up surrounded by music and gained the industry experience at a very young age. My mom introduced me to Opera music and folklore, I personally love Scandinavian folk and acoustic. I am currently a student of Film Composition in London College of Music and I'd love to share my piano and music theory experience with others :)

ABOUT ME: My name is Christian. I'm a professional musician, and have 10 years experience working as a music teacher. I teach Jazz, Classical, Rock and Pop, and Theory. Playing music just about the most fun thing a person can do and my goal is to bring that joy to my lessons. I attended King's College London, where I studied music, majoring in composition, and achieved a 1st Class (Hons) Degree. I have performed at some of London's most prestigious venues including The Royal Festival Hall, Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, Toulouse Lautrec Jazz Club, Kansas Smitty's, Wilderness Festival, The Nightjar, The Ned London, and many more. TEACHING EXPERIENCE: I have been working as a private piano, singing teacher, and music tutor for 10 years, helping students achieve their personal goals, success with their ABRSM and Trinity instrumental exams, and their desired GCSE and A Level Results. I also worked as a peripatetic teacher in a secondary school (Bishop Thomas Grant School) for three years before deciding to make my teaching practice entirely private. While at the school I taught piano, I also tutored GCSE and A Level students through their exams. I also ran the school's jazz band throughout my tenure where I taught jazz, ensemble, and improvisational skills to students on many different instruments. I provide piano lesson for beginning, intermediate and advanced students, preparing them for piano exams up to grade 8, including the necessary aural and music theory training. I also teach pre-school children from the age of 3 as well as children with disabilities, adjusting the music program to their needs. When working with young children I focus on developing their musical imagination and curiosity, while also providing them with technical skills and a detailed understanding of the musical score. I aim to provide a firm basis on which they can build a western classical repertoire, or any other musical style they choose. For beginners I work with one of the early piano syllabi, usually Thompson's 'Easiest Piano Course' or Oxford's piano method book 'Piano Time,' which consist of fun songs and simple melodies. Through this the pupil is gradually introduced to various aspects of the melody (such as pitch, duration of notes, phrasing and articulation) and coordination of both hands on the keyboard in a creative and stimulating way. At this stage I place a strong emphasis on proper body posture and hand position. As the pupil acquires fundamental piano skills and gets comfortable reading music I proceed with them through the ABRSM or Trinity piano syllabus to a more advanced repertoire. Throughout a student’s education, I incorporate sight reading, scales exercises and technical work into the lesson structure and daily practice routine of the pupil. I also focus on developing my students’ understanding of how music theory applies to the material they play. Applying Musicological knowledge and own performing experience I teach students in depth analyses of the music they play, guide their individual interpretation and bring their awareness to the specifics of a historically informed performance. My pupils play a broad variety of western classical styles, and I will work with them to balance their program and maximise their enjoyment and appreciation for music. The student will become familiar with the main forms and stylistic traits of baroque, classical, romantic and 20th century Western classical music. I will also make sure the pieces stay challenging technically and if needed I will provide additional materials which will help the student to focus on the areas which need most work on. Though not usually covered in exam syllabi, I am happy to work alongside the student on pieces which do not necessarily fit into the Western classical canon, should they so wish. Playing and learning an instrument should primarily bring joy, and as a result inspire the student’s dedication to practice and foster a willingness to work hard. I believe in the importance of the relationship between teacher and student and as such provide the needed mental support and encouragement. I adopt an intuitive pupil-centred approach to learning that will best support their passion for making music. Attention to detail is paramount, and staying attuned to the needs of the student is always a priority. As such, I will adjust the tempo of the program to meet goals at a pace that is ideal for both the pupil’s ability and well-being.

I teach for all levels, from children starting from zero to students who want to prepare certifications at the Conservatories, passing through amateurs or simply curious of any age. I firmly believe in the importance of knowing how to read music and this is exactly what I teach first, obviously adapting the method to the age of my students: knowing how to read music is knowing one more language, which, if learned well, won’t ever be forgotten (like riding a bicycle!) and it is an invaluable wealth. Starting from that point I teach the position of the hand, the arm and the whole body at the piano, the fundamentals of the piano technique (giving great importance to the percussive movement of the finger and the distribution of weight), the understanding of musical language, the expression of the personality through the keyboard, the search for touch and knowledge of piano repertoire.

Welcome to my piano teaching studio! I am a professional pianist offering private piano and theory lessons for students of all levels. As a pianist with over 14 years of teaching experience in Europe and the USA, as well as over 23 years of playing/performing, I enjoy motivating my students with music of their own preferred style and interest, whether that be classical or contemporary. My main goal is to promote a positive experience and love for music-making during the learning process. If the student is interested in a more structured approach, I guide preparation for grades 1-8 of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) piano and music theory exams where my students consistently receive highest marks. I also have successful experience preparing students for conservatory entrance auditions, masterclasses, and competitions in the Europe, the USA, India, and Canada. We have class concerts at Pianos Maene for interested students twice per year. I am happy to provide either a more relaxed or a serious approach to learning piano, we simply need to discuss the personal goals and preferences of each student. My own studies are as follows: I have obtained two postgraduate performance degrees at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp: "Concertsoloist" in Piano Performance and "Chamber Music” (under the guidance of esteemed professor Sergei Edelmann). Prior to this, I received my Bachelor and Masters degrees in Piano Performance/Music from the University of Minnesota - Minneapolis (with Prof. Lydia Artymiw) and Texas Christian University, Fort Worth (with Dr. Tamas Ungar). My experience includes collaboration with many different instrumentalists and singers, performing as a soloist and collaborative member in several orchestras, and receiving top prizes in several competitions. While maintaining my performance and recording career in Belgium at present, I am developing my private music studio in central Antwerp and look forward to meeting new students.
