It is true that the philosopher is the friend of wisdom, but above all, he is someone who does not want to make mistakes in reasoning. Philosophizing is a way of reasoning and a way of solving problems that will never have a perfect and definitive solution. Knowing the distance between the Earth and the Moon is not a problem of philosophy, because it is enough to measure to solve it. On the other hand, knowing, for example, what justice is, is a problem of philosophy. A meter will not be able to help us know the answer. We must go about it differently, and in the courses I offer, I will teach you how. You will learn - text reading strategies - case studies with the aim of learning from experts - methodology in philosophy - writing an essay - writing a text commentary - a work on the philosophers of your choice - an overview of the history of philosophy - the general culture necessary to be able to philosophize I will adapt to your individual needs. Each course is tailor-made. We will analyze where your difficulties lie and together develop a course program that will make you perform as quickly as possible. The basic principle of the courses I offer is dialectics, like Plato's dialogues: reflecting together, making theoretical contributions, asking questions and seeking answers, and testing the validity of reasoning. For the past 10 years, I have been teaching German using the philosophy methodology, having studied philosophy at the Master's level at Aix-Marseille University. It turns out that the analytical mind is very useful even outside the confines of philosophy. Today, there are even fields of activity such as management with philosophy or philotherapy. In recent years, some German students have asked me to also teach them philosophy courses, and that is why I decided to offer philosophy courses directly. I come from a scientific background, specifically Physics and Mathematics, and Yoga came into my life out of this need to self regulate and further understand the Universe and my place in it. I feel that these two areas complement each other very well. I try to by precise and methodical, allowing the subjectivity of each one's experience to come to the surface, welcoming it and using it to explore our own reality. Everyone is unique, with a certain life path, a specific set of desires, needs and difficulties and my goal is to help you by meeting you where you are and guiding you to where you want to go, giving you the tools to know yourself better and build a practice that works for you. Yoga is a very broad tradition and there are multiple ways to achieve the Yoga state. By working together we can find out what works best for you and in a particular phase of your life and expand on that. Learn to think with the great philosophers of the past! In these tutorials you will learn - about the ideas of some of the most famous and influential philosophers of the modern age, - how to read and understand original philosophical texts, - most importantly, how to become a critical thinker and philosophise on your own. In ten tutorials (each two hours long), we will follow the development of modern philosophy from the 17th century to the present. We will start with Descartes, look at Spinoza, Locke, Hume, Kant, Hegel, Schopenhauer and Nietzsche, and end with Wittgenstein and Heidegger. We will cover topics in the philosophy of mind and language, in epistemology, metaphysics and ethics. We will discuss questions such as "Is the mind distinct from matter?", "Can I know anything?", "Can we distinguish between good and evil?", "Does God exist?" etc. Note: You can choose whether you prefer ten tutorials (each two hours long) or twenty tutorials (each one hour long). About me: I am a retired university professor who still enjoys teaching philosophy. I have taught many students (graduate and undergraduate) for several decades at reputable British universities. conversation + Conversation + is a new conversation based format that combines grammar, syntax, understanding vocabulary and expressions as well as the practice of correct pronunciation and intonation with the reading of a text of your choosing. On the basis of a selected text the conversation evolves around the topics at hand; parallel to this, we discuss anything language-related that comes up. Any question, any problem can be addressed.
