In my classes, I want to develop what I call a culture of sound: the ability to truly listen, to understand the character and quality of a sound, and to discover how one note can carry emotion, intention, and meaning. Alongside violin technique, we explore the philosophy of music - why music affects us so deeply, how interpretation changes what we hear, and how musicians learn to communicate something that cannot always be expressed in words. Playing the violin is also a unique form of mental training. It requires the ears, eyes, hands, memory, imagination, and attention to work together at the same time. In this sense, music is both meditation and one of the most powerful exercises in concentration. Regular practice develops focus, coordination, memory, and the brain's ability to learn.
