"Mathematics Mastery: Building Strong Foundations"Translate this text using Google Translate.

Mathematics, often hailed as a core subject in education, holds a pivotal position in shaping a student's academic foundation and critical thinking abilities. Here are some reasons why mathematics is considered one of the best core subjects that students need to understand: Enhances Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills: Mathematics challenges the mind to think logically, analyze situations, and formulate effective strategies to solve problems. This skill set is applicable not only in mathematics itself but also in various aspects of daily life, including decision-making and analyzing real-world issues. Promotes Analytical and Quantitative Reasoning: Mathematics trains individuals to dissect complex problems into manageable components, apply suitable methods, and arrive at accurate solutions. This logical approach enhances analytical skills and nurtures a quantitative mindset, enabling students to interpret data and make informed judgments. Facilitates Technological Proficiency: In today's technology-driven world, understanding mathematics is fundamental to grasping technology. Concepts in mathematics underpin various technological advancements and innovations, making it indispensable for students aspiring to excel in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields. Fosters a Strong Foundation for Higher Education: Mathematics serves as a prerequisite for many academic disciplines, especially in science, engineering, economics, and computer science. A solid understanding of mathematical principles equips students with the knowledge and skills needed for advanced studies and specialized careers. Encourages Perseverance and Resilience: Solving complex math problems often requires patience, persistence, and resilience. Overcoming mathematical challenges instills a sense of accomplishment, boosting students' confidence and motivation to tackle difficulties in other academic and life domains. Supports Financial Literacy: Mathematical knowledge is essential for understanding personal finances, budgeting, investments, and overall financial literacy. It equips individuals to make sound financial decisions, plan for the future, and manage resources effectively. Enhances Communication and Language Skills: Mathematics has its own language and symbols. Learning to communicate complex ideas using this language improves overall communication skills, enabling students to convey ideas more clearly and succinctly, a valuable skill in various professions. Prepares for Competitive Exams: Many competitive exams, such as SAT, ACT, GRE, and various entrance exams for higher education, have a significant mathematics component. A strong foundation in mathematics is crucial for achieving high scores in these exams and securing admission into reputable institutions. In conclusion, mathematics is much more than a subject to pass in school; it is a fundamental tool for empowering students with essential life skills, shaping their cognitive abilities, and preparing them for a successful future. Understanding and appreciating the beauty and utility of mathematics can significantly enrich one's academic and professional journey. Mathematics is a critical subject as it sharpens problem-solving and analytical skills. It's fundamental for technology, lays the base for higher education, and boosts resilience. Understanding math is key to financial literacy and success in various fields, making it a crucial core subject for students.

One-to-one Online GCSE or Functional Skills Maths TuitionTranslate this text using Google Translate.

I am a qualified mathematics tutor with over 20 years experience of teaching adults and teenagers in colleges in England as well as delivering private tuition. My specialism is teaching GCSE maths (Foundation and Higher) and Functional Skills maths (Level 1 and Level 2). The feedback I get from my learners is that I make the learning process fun, and I have many students telling me that they enjoyed maths for the first time in my lessons. The connections I make with my learners, as well as my energy and enthusiasm for the learning process are fundamental parts of what makes my sessions engaging. As well as effectively communicating mathematical concepts to them, I focus on building their confidence in the subject, letting them know that it is okay to make mistakes, that mistakes are key to learning. Counselling my students through the learning process, containing their doubts and fears, is an important part of what I do. This can be empathising with them when they are frustrated and finding the subject difficult. It can be advising them on what they need to do to improve, or reassuring them that although they will forget what they learnt this week, it will come back to them later on when we focus on exam preparation. Below is some of the feedback I have received: Thank you for giving me another go this year at GCSE math. I felt a real benefit of doing it this year fingers crossed I can do you proud and passed. Anything I can do so I’m ready for access hopefully next year. Many thanks to best math teacher I've ever had. Caroline (Foundation GCSE 2019) Thank you for everything! When I started Pre-Access/Access, I was a bit reluctant returning to learning. However, the past 2 years had been wonderfully inspiring and that’s thanks to you. You have been amazing part of my academic journey. I wish you all the best. Maj (Higher GCSE 2018/ Access to HE 2019) A big thank you. I really enjoyed your class. I am going to miss coming to it. You are an amazing teacher and even with all the distractions of the year you were able to help so many of us, which just goes to show how good you are! Sian (Foundation GCSE 2019) Hello, and thank you for your message of congratulations! I am absolutely thrilled and delighted to have been able to pass GCSE Maths: I can't tell you how happy and surprised I feel. It was really a big challenge for me and I had to work very hard at it, from start to finish on the course. The exams were exacting, and I ran out of time on Paper 3, which was a scary experience. But, I enjoyed all your classes very much indeed, and I passed thanks to your expert teaching, guidance, advice and encouragement. THANK YOU, and kindest regards to you. All the very best, from Judy (Foundation GCSE 2019) Thanks and thanks for being such a good teacher. I have enjoyed my year pushing my poor brain into areas it's never dared go before. I’d like to personally thank you for all your support and encouragement over the last nine months. You made me believe that i COULD do maths, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the whole process. (Well, ok, I wasn’t crazy about quadratic equations! 🙄). Pass or fail, I’ll never regret doing it. Lydia (Foundation GCSE 2020) Pass, fail lose or draw , whatever the outcome, it’s been a pleasure attending your lessons. The enthusiasm you show is a lesson in itself ! which, hopefully, we’ll all be able to draw on. John (Foundation GCSE 2020) You’ve been a wonderful teacher. You always explained everything in a great way, understanding that we all learn differently and providing lots of different techniques to learn and offering support to all! And you’re a lovely person on top of it all. Couldn’t wish for a better teacher! Cyntia (Foundation GCSE 2020) I would like to thank you for the teaching and support you have given me whilst I have been studying at college. I honestly don’t think I would have passed my exam without it! Nicola (Foundation GCSE 2020) Thank you for all your help over the last few months, I really enjoyed your teaching and thoroughly looked forward to my Tuesday mornings in class. Maybe I’ll see you at college again, if I decide to do another course ..... my husband is already asking if I can sit the higher paper?! Stephanie (Foundation GCSE 2020) I just wanted to say thank you. Obviously the year didn't quite pan out as I had expected but I did enjoy what time we did get to spend in the classroom. At school I found maths really difficult and therefore boring. You made it easier to understand and I actually enjoyed most of it! I have no idea what grade I am likely to get but fingers crossed I hopefully won't be seeing you in September to do it all again!! Many thanks for all your help. Private lessons in Maths or Physics for students at EPFL, UNIL, gymnasium or collegeTranslate this text using Google Translate.

Private lessons in Maths or Physics for students at EPFL, UNIL, gymnasium or collegeTranslate this text using Google Translate.

Second year master's student in Energy Science at EPFL, and holder of a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at the same school, I offer mathematics and physics courses to students from EPFL, UNIL, gymnasium or college. During my studies, I built a solid scientific foundation, but also accumulated a lot of experience as a private teacher. In fact, for 4 years already, I have been teaching: - to first year bachelor's and master's students at EPFL in the mechanical, microtechnology, computer science and biological fields - to UNIL students in the biology, economics and maths sectors - to students in the gymnasium. - to middle school students These experiences allowed me to develop a better approach during my courses. I first try to understand what the student has understood, and what is not well understood. To do this, I suggest doing several exercises together. Then, I re-explain in a simpler way the part in which the student is having difficulty. Finally, I let the student do a new exercise on his own to see if the concept has been acquired. I am very happy to be able to help students in difficulty to progress, because for me the sharing of knowledge is very important. In particular, I was able to help students with weaknesses in mathematics and physics to pass their end-of-year exams.
