Bijles lager onderwijs/Tutoring primary school students

Bijles lager onderwijs/Tutoring primary school students

As a tutor, I work in a calm, patient and personalised way, adapting my approach to each child. I believe it is important for children to feel comfortable so that they feel free to ask questions and are not afraid of making mistakes. For me, trust is an important foundation for effective learning. During a tutoring session, I first look at what the child already knows and where they are experiencing difficulties. I listen carefully to what they find challenging and adapt my explanation accordingly. I then explain the material step by step, using simple language and clear examples that are relevant to the child’s everyday life. I like to use an active and varied approach. Children are given plenty of opportunities to think for themselves, practise and ask questions. Whenever possible, I also use games or fun activities to review the material in an enjoyable way. This helps children remember what they have learned and makes learning feel less difficult or boring. A typical lesson starts with a short review of what we learned during the previous session. We then work on a new topic and practise it together. At the end of the lesson, we take a moment to look at what is going well and which areas may need some more practice. My strengths are my patience, my clear way of explaining things and my experience in a school environment. I enjoy working with children in primary school and mainly provide support with maths, language and study skills. My goal is not only to help children improve at school, but also to help them discover that they are capable of more than they sometimes think.

Maths/physics/computer science at the middle school/high school/university level in Lille or online

Maths/physics/computer science at the middle school/high school/university level in Lille or online

My method is based primarily on adapting to the student: their level, their objectives, their difficulties, and their way of thinking. I can support a student who wants to consolidate their foundations as well as a more advanced student who wants to delve deeper or prepare for scientific studies. A typical session usually unfolds in four stages: 1. Quickly review the concepts covered, the difficulties encountered, and any questions since the previous session. 2. Identify the problem precisely using a few questions or short exercises. I prefer to target the actual difficulty rather than unnecessarily revisiting an entire chapter. 3. Review the concept clearly and progressively, then solve a first exercise together, explaining the reasoning and the different steps. 4. Gradually move towards autonomy: I then allow the student to explore more independently, while intervening when they get stuck or when an error reveals a misunderstanding. I place great importance on reasoning. My goal is not for the student to memorize a recipe for a specific type of exercise, but for them to understand the concepts well enough to be able to reuse them in a new situation. In mathematics and physics, this involves understanding the assumptions, methods, and logic behind the calculations. In computer science, I also emphasize practical application: understanding a problem, breaking it down, constructing a solution, and then analyzing any errors. The sessions can of course be adapted to the needs of the moment: review of the course, exercises, homework, preparation for a test or exam, further study or work methodology.
