I am born and raised in Mainland China, traveling across the whole country, and lived in different cities when I grew up. I came to the Netherlands for a master's degree (education program) in 2014. Knowing a lot of my friends who are interested in Chinese/Mandarin learning but only for practical reasons, I have a Dutch partner who is taught by me for some daily but simple conversations in Chinese, the results are showing without knowing grammar or recognizing Chinese characters, some phrases can be widely and well used for traveling purpose. I teach not mainly based on books or theoretical way if you are not too serious about grammar. This might be worth learning Chinese in a different way.
