Summer course - (I)GCSE English Literature / IB English LiteratureTranslate this text using Google Translate.

Are you having difficulties analysing texts, poems and prose in your IGCSE English, IB English Literature or IB LangLit course? Are you ready to commit an hour every week over the summer to get that 6 or 7 and get into the university of your dreams? Then this is the course for you! From helping you master the general techniques of literary analysis and teaching you how to compare literary works to answer exam questions on character development, theme and techniques, my course will provide you with all the tools and knowledge you need to dazzle even the most demanding IB examiner. The combination of my passion for writing prose and poetry and my deep understanding of IB marking criteria thanks to great teachers and thoughtful research means that I am uniquely placed to not only explain what your answers were lacking, but also show you how thinking like a writer can help you dramatically improve your answers. Following a thorough discussion of your individual needs in our first class, I will create for you an engaging but exam-focused programme drawing on my 3-year experience as a tutor and using interactive teaching platforms. Through my course, you will get access to a vast library of resources (at no extra cost) - from official IB textbooks and past papers to teacher guidance - to help you perfect both your analytical and essay-writing skills. And if English is your second language, I will show you what to focus on in your learning so that you could write better than Shakespeare! Are you ready to turn the page on disappointing grades in the past? Then contact me today!

English Exam Tutoring - National 5, Higher, Advanced Higher levelTranslate this text using Google Translate.

English Exam Tutoring - National 5, Higher, Advanced Higher levelTranslate this text using Google Translate.

English Literature, while being a fun and engaging subject, can be equally daunting - especially when getting your ideas down on the page! This class is designed for Scottish High school students, ranging from National 5 to Advanced Higher level, and offers support with how to approach textual analysis, essay writing skills, proofreading, and exam techniques so that your ideas can be conveyed in the best way possible. I have a first-class MA undergraduate in English literature from the University of Edinburgh, so am up to date with contemporary literary theory and debates. Furthermore, I sat the Scottish National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher English exams myself, and achieved A's, as recently as 2018 so I have an understanding of what the courses entail. I have tutored privately for three years, and am available in person and over Zoom. My approach to teaching English is a collaborative one, allowing for an open discussion of your aims and needs. I can tailor to what each person struggles with in class while providing the information and structure needed to excel in examinations. Furthermore, I will proofread the folio work required for the exam. I find that with this approach, students gain the confidence and skill set needed to tackle their examinations and thrive.

French at secondary level II and maturity: literature, essay and oral presentationTranslate this text using Google Translate.

French at secondary level II and maturity: literature, essay and oral presentationTranslate this text using Google Translate.

I support upper secondary and upper secondary students in French: analysis of works on the program, method of essay and commentary, and preparation for oral exams. In French, the grade almost never depends on the quantity read. It depends on the ability to construct and defend a personal interpretation—a coherent argument, a structure that progresses rather than simply juxtaposing passages, quotations that prove something instead of merely decorating. In the oral exam, there is the added challenge of having to speak for ten minutes on an excerpt without reciting. In concrete terms: — the method of the essay, the structured commentary and the summary, practiced on your own copies; — in-depth analysis of the works on the syllabus, with files that I design myself: context, reading axes, key extracts, probable oral questions; — Oral practice in real-life conditions, timed, with questions actually asked by an examiner; — language correction if necessary — syntax, punctuation, precision of vocabulary — because that's often where the points go on a good paper. Works regularly studied: Candide, Madame Bovary, The Stranger, Phaedra, Lorenzaccio, The Game of Love and Chance, Baudelaire, Maupassant, Hugo, Balzac, Ionesco, Duras, Eldorado by Laurent Gaudé, Art by Yasmina Reza. If your work is not listed, I will prepare the dossier. In-person in the Valais Chablais region or via video conference.

I look forward to my lessons, they did an excellent job at immersing me from day one. I had some basic understanding of composition, vocab etc. and they immediately matched my level of understanding. I don’t feel any time is wasted. Within two minutes of meeting with my tutor, we began learning. I am super impressed by Emna and hope to continue my learning until I am fluent. Would recommend to anyone and everyone!

Don't think twice, just book ! Fay is an unbelievable tutor who has been helping my son with Eng LAL Internal Oral journey. Whilst we initially expected a supplement to his current teacher, to our surprise Fay has added a totally new dimension and dynamic which is evident in my son's approach and confidence towards the task. We look forward to also leveraging her experience for the pending exams.

I had my first ever Russian lesson with Ilia and I enjoyed it so much! He's very patient and organised and showed up to the first class with excellent materials pre-prepared. He explains everything in a clear manner. I'm looking forward to our future classes. If you're a beginner don't be afraid to book a class with Ilia.
