Trusted teacher: Over the past decade teaching over 15,000 private music lessons, I have found allowing the student's curiosity, individual musical taste and interest primarily dictate the direction and pace of their education to be the most effective. I believe the most fruitful learning is done within a safe, welcoming environment where the primary goal is to find joy in the process of learning a challenging yet fulfilling skill! I primarily use tablature and chord charts and other curriculum materials I have developed which give new students the best chance at success in the long run. Each lesson will begin with tuning our instruments, followed by a quick debrief addressing areas of struggle or issues that arose during practice. Then we will move forward with a recap of last week's material which might be a couple new chord shapes, a Christmas melody, or learning a song from a favorite movie etc. I find it is helpful to practice practicing during the last few minutes of the session, making the instructions and expectations very clear. I believe it is vitally important to celebrate even the smallest of successes and not get too caught up with results. Progress takes time. The primary goal is to create a balanced lifestyle around playing your instrument. You will become great with consistent practice habits and maintaining a positive mindset, I believe in you!

I have been writing songs now for 30 years, including being asked to write lyrics for local charities and for special occasions. Songwriting theory and musical theory and compositions can often take the fun out of lifting and playing music - whether its a guitar, microphone, drum kit! These 1 hour sessions give the customer an opportunity to explore musical styles, rhythms, while personalising a song for their own use. Every song created will be supplied in an electronic copy, with the lyrics displayed in a certificate explaining the background to the song/ lyrics/ tune etc. Option1 : Tutor and customer discuss the scope of the song - whwether the song is to be personal - about someone, somewhere, a particular event - whether the song is to be uplifting or melancholy, with distortion, or smooth? These personalised songs can be so well received; especially with a copy of a certificate explaining why it was written, when it was written and for whom. Option 2: The Random Song - pick some random words and create a masterpiece; see the story come to life as the song verses merge into a meaningful chorus.... or let the fun begin, and let the children ( small and grown up) have loads of ideas which randomly converge into YOUR song! Can be done in person as part of a 'party' or online over Teams etc. No two sessions are ever the same; and multiple members can dial in if you want them to share in the Songwriting process! Every session comes with an e version of the recorded song, and an electronic copy of the certificate, showing the lyrics and details of the songwriter, date created/recorded.
