My teaching approach is inspired by Paul Harris’ “Simultaneous Learning” and Phyllis Young’s “Playing the String Game”. I combine games and natural instinct to help my students understand playing the cello without overly-complicated instructions. With 4 years of experience, I’m confident in taking on both young and adult students, from beginners all the way to diploma level, guiding their journey throughout. Learning the cello should be both fun and rewarding. I tailor my lessons according to each students’ interests, strengths, and weaknesses in order to help them realise to their full potential. With over 15 years experience, I have taught some 10,000 hours of one-to-one instrumental lessons. I have taught over 100 individual students ranging in age from four to 75+; from beginners to diploma-level, both amateurs and professionals. I attended the Purcell School before moving to Germany where I studied for my Diploma. I gained a Bachelor of Music degree from City of Basel Music Academy in Switzerland and Master of Music degree from the University of Music & Performing Arts Stuttgart in Germany, graduating with the highest honours for both degrees. I successfully finished my Postgraduate Artist Diploma studies at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance. Hello! I've been teaching continuously for over 10 years, and I'd like to explain what you can expect from a class with me. Personalized approach: The most important thing is to know what you want to achieve. I will tailor the lessons to your needs: playing for pleasure at home is not the same as preparing for entrance exams (although always with the same rigor). Your goals will influence the methodology, the organization of your studies, the repertoire, and so on. Relaxed (but rigorous) environment: Once you've defined your goals, classes will be dynamic and pressure-free. Note! "Relaxed" doesn't mean undemanding; we'll just avoid military methods—especially given my personality and sense of humor. Music, not just notes: My methods are very dynamic, with a special emphasis on hearing and musicality. No "read, play, and turn the page." I avoid approaches obsessed with reading sheet music without memorizing, listening, or understanding what is being played. I want you to own your performance and make artistic decisions. Warning! I might even make you sing. No stylistic barriers: Thanks to my training in Jazz and Modern Music, I give equal importance to all genres. One of the most wonderfull string instrument is the cello. If you want to learn how to play cello or just to continue improving your skills do not hesitate to contact me. I have a lot of experience teaching cello and for me, the most important thing in my lessons is learn well and enjoy. Ussually, my lesson programme is start with a short warm up (technique exercises) to continue with different cello pieces chosen by the students. I have a lot of pop and actual music cello pieces for all levels. In addition, I'm familiar with methods like ABRSM, Suzuki, Feuillard, Duport, Popper and Piatti.

My name is Miriam, I am a graduate in Master of Classical Music at KASK & Conservatorium in Ghent. I've been teaching cello to children, teenagers and adults for 10 years, so I've acquired the necessary experience to be able to adapt to the different and personal needs and objectives of each student. My teaching methodology focuses on creating a friendly and relaxed environment (which does not mean undemanding!) in which students feel confident to express their own ideas and worries. In my lessons I focus on technical and postural questions, but we also reflect together on the music, as I like my students to develop their own musical ideas and not just imitate the teacher. Growing with joy in playing – developing technique through favorite pieces. One of the most exciting aspects of playing the piano is the ability to play favorite tunes from movies and Disney fairy tales. You can easily learn and play popular songs that both children and adults will enjoy. This makes practicing the piano even more interesting and inspiring, as you can enjoy familiar and beloved melodies. Learn your favorite melodies with fun In my lessons, we'll explore jazz and pop music together on the piano. We'll play the music you love. If you'd also like to learn classical works, we're happy to incorporate that music into the lessons. You'll also learn music theory and ear training (solfeggio) – in a relaxed and playful way, so the focus is always on fun.
