Studied jazz musician gives saxophone lessons, focused on the joy of making music. You decide where to go. I'm on stage full-time. I am currently involved in a large number of projects with various musical styles. My references include an appearance on the Dutch television station L1mburg TV, as well as a concert on the public radio program NPO Jazz in the Netherlands, as well as appearances at various jazz festivals, including North Sea Jazz Rotterdam, JazzOut Limburg and the Göttingen Jazz Festival. Music has accompanied me since early childhood. I started playing the flute when I was five and the saxophone when I was nine. After gaining a lot of experience in big bands, funk/soul bands, rock bands and other projects, my interests culminated in studying jazz and saxophone at the Maastricht Conservatory, which I successfully completed in 2021. About the lesson: It's not just about jazz. You determine the style of music. Whether pop, funk or soul, I'm open to everything. Reflection is the be-all and end-all. I'll teach you music theory and everything to do with sax. The feel and the fun of making music is always the focus. You decide which direction we take. If desired, improvisation plays a major role. The course is suitable for all ages and levels. I take the time to adapt to you and to fulfill your wishes e.g. music style, direction etc.. The lessons take place in my own studio, at your home or online via webcam. No saxophone or previous knowledge necessary.

Learn to play to decipher scores and improvise by ear or by reading and analyzing chord charts. This course will adapt to your level of play: simple harmonies for beginners and more complex depending on the degree of mastery of the instrument. This course also includes a thorough introduction to harmony.

Are you a beginner?? No worries: no experience is required! 😁 I can teach you the basics to produce sounds with your saxophone: position of the embouchure (teeth, tongue, lips and vocal cords' position, an element often forgotten), fingerings, use of diafragma,... After the first two lessons spent on the mouthpiece and neck for the sound production, we will immediately start to play some super easy duos together to practice your capacity of listening, pay attention to the other, ear training as well. I normally use the book of Peter Wastall (titled Learn as you play) as support, but it is not mandatory. There are plenty of good books btw! Are you an intermediate / advanced student?? I am sure you can still improve in all the basics, but on a different level. I'll teach you the importance of the "voicing" (technique named by the american saxophonist and pedagogue Donald Sinta) to improve your sound production and projection as well as the capacity of correcting and improving the intonation. You can learn all about phrasing and music interpretation, from tonal music until contemporary atonal compositions. And still, you can improve your playing together, practicing in duo on different aspects like tuning, balance, interpretation, performance etc. Book a lesson and try! We follow a working method where you will continuously and deeply develop your musicality, way of playing, expressiveness and technique. -------------------------------------------------- ---------------------- Raúl is a Spanish saxophonist who finished his DIDACTIC MASTER in 2018 at the École Supérieure des Arts in Mons. Previously, he also completed a MASTER OF INTERPRETATION at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels (2015-2017) in the class of Alain Crepin and Simon Diricq. He studied at the "Musikene" (Higher Conservatory of Music of the Basque Country) with Eric Devallon, Tomás Jérez, Antonio Felipe Belijar and Miguel Ángel Lorente. Passionate about multidisciplinary artistic creation, he thinks of the mixing of all the arts in the same show as an aesthetic goal. This type of research could be observed in his project for his final master's recital in Brussels where he created a project based on Maslow's theory of the hierarchy of human needs where he mixed live, recorded music, dance, light shows and effects under the name: “according to Maslow... ” In terms of his career as a concert artist, he has played in different ensembles (solo performances, duo, trio, quartet, orchestra...) and different countries such as Japan (Artisanal Musical Fair "Suono Italia" 2010), Belgium (Festival Musiq3 2016), Artonov Festival at BOZAR in 2016...), France (Dax chamber music festival 2011) or Spain (Music Festival “Quincena Musical” 2015, Aste Nagusia 2015, Heineken Jazzaldia 2014, Festival Kutxa 2015, Intercentros Melómano 2010).
