What is baroque oboe? It’s a copy of an instrument used in the 17th and 18th centuries, now used for historically oriented performances of early music. It’s significantly different from the modern oboe we know from the symphony orchestra, it has no keys, requires less physical strength, and plays in a pleasant, slightly lower pitch (A 415 Hz) just to start with. That’s the instrument Bach had in mind writing Matthew Passion or his amazing cantatas and Marcello his famous Oboe Concerto.
I’m a graduate of Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag and Universität der Kunste Berlin where I mastered the art of playing historical oboes. For ten years I’m working as a professional musician with several early music groups in Holland and abroad. Playing oboe is my passion which I want to share with others. Experience with playing musical instruments like a recorder, modern oboe, clarinet, etc is welcome but not necessary. As a trained modern oboist (Master's degree) I’m also happy to teach modern oboe.
