Guitar is often taught through the memorization of shapes and repetitive exercises. While these tools can be useful, they do not necessarily help us understand what we are actually doing musically or how the instrument itself really works.

In these lessons, I will help you develop both technical and musical awareness from the very beginning by connecting the ear to the instrument. Max for Live is a tool bundled with Ableton Live that lets you program your own instruments and effects without writing a single line of code. With this course you will get a better understanding of the components of a synthesizer, learn the fundamentals of some of the most known and recognizable effects and learn some basic notions of programming.

Max uses a visual approach to programming, meaning you do not have to right codes to make your own plugins, instead you connect blocks that each have a specific function into an interconnected network that make a functioning instrument or effect.

About me:
I am Nikos and I am a classical guitarist with 15 years of experience. I started playing classical guitar at the age of 10 and from the age of 14, with the supervision of my teacher, I have been helping and guiding younger guitar students, giving me a hands-on experience in teaching from an early age. In 2019, I obtained my soloist diploma from the Hellenic Conservatory of Music and Arts, giving me the right to teach and since then I have been teaching privately. Currently, I am studying with professor Pavel Steidl, at the Royal Conservatoire of the Hague and I have been attending a Music Pedagogy course, as well as courses in Early Music.

Since 2014, I have been attending guitar festivals and academies, giving me the opportunity to learn from some of the most important classical guitarists of our era and also be awarded prizes in national and international competitions, such as the 1st prize in Palaio Faliro guitar festival in Athens in 2020 and the 3rd prize in the 1st International Nikita Koshkin competition in Russia in 2021. In 2024, I was honored to receive a scholarship given each year to two European guitarists, giving me the opportunity to attend the Volterra Project Summer Guitar Institute 2024 in Volterra, Italy.

In 2020 and 2021, I graduated from the music theory departments of the Hellenic Conservatory with a degree in Music Harmony and a degree in Counterpoint.

Howdy! Offering guitar lessons and unsolicited life advice.

About a decade ago I ran into something I still can't put into words. Describing it is like trying to taste a colour, but that is the point: music is older than words, and it gets to places language can't reach. For a lot of us it's a way out of overthinking and overstressing, a way back to the feeling.

Try this: keep tapping tap-ta-ta-tap-ta-ta-tap-tap on the table while you describe the room around you, out loud or just in your head. Rhythm and words compete for the same space. When you play, you let rhythm win, and the monologue goes quiet. That's half of it. The other half, the feel, can't be explained with words: you'd have to come and pick up the instrument.

The lessons themselves aren't esoteric. We learn pieces you like, figure out how they work, then make our own music with them. No fixed curriculum: music needs passion, and passion needs freedom. No audition, no talent test.

I'm not out to turn anyone into a guitarist. I just think we'd all be better off with more music and less words, and one (musical) conversation is enough to get the idea. Come once and see if it clicks. Fancy espressos included, I'm a big fan of good bean juice.

Lessons take place at my little studio in Schiedam, two stops from Rotterdam Centraal. Practising at your place or online is also an option. I've also built a platform for my students where you can book lessons, see lesson plans ahead of time and look up material.
