A graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, I offer private piano lessons at my teaching studio in Narimasu, Itabashiku, Tokyo. In my lessons I strive to teach more than simply how to play the piano. My goal is to help students understand how music works, how to understand it, and how to create it yourself. I take a holistic approach to teaching, incorporating lessons in proper piano technique, listing skills, rhythm and harmony games, good practice habits and techniques, and the history of music, among other things. Above all else I aim to make the lessons as interesting and useful as possible.

About Me

I am a Sydney born composer and piano teacher, now living in Tokyo, Japan. Entranced by the music of the 1960's, in particular Rock and Blues muic, I began my piano studies at the age of 16. After hearing the music of great romantic composers such as Liszt, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff, I trasitioned to playing classical music. For 4 years after graduating from high school I dedicated myself to studying piano and music theory. I was eventually accepted into the Sydney Conservatorium of Music where I graduated with a Bachelor of Music Studies in 2008. I have been teaching and composing since then.

Education

In 2003 I received my Associate Diploma in Piano Performance from the Australian Music Examinations Board. I then went on to study a Bachelor of Music Studies at the University of Sydney in Australia. I graduated in 2008.

I am a professional pianist, who have over 20 years experience in teaching piano and music theory.

I teach all ages, beginners to professionals, have many international students, and a class for Associations Franco-Japonais (AFJ), in English, French, and Japanese.

I also prepare students for exams or competitions, such as Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM, ARSM, DipABRSM), and Advanced Placement (AP) Music Theory, etc., and most of my students have achieved with distinction.

In my class, considering capabilities of each student, we will work and find together what is the best way for them to enjoy music, based on technical assurance and control, matching musical interpretation, communication, and delivery.

Teaching locations will be at a lesson studio in west Tokyo (Kamishakujii), student’s home, or online. Group lessons are able only for music theory at student’s home or online.

As a violin teacher, my goal is to create a positive learning environment while cultivating the student’s love for music. I believe in developing music-reading as well as ear-training skills in my student’s music education. I work hard to tailor each lesson to meet the individual student’s musical goals, level and learning style. I have experience teaching students from age 3 to adult and from absolute beginner to college-level students. As a conservatory trained violinist, I teach a solid foundation in violin technique, theory and repertoire. I currently maintain a private violin studio in Yokohama and one in my home in Kawasaki.
