About Me

I'm a recent university graduate with an interest in sharing the skills I have developed during my studies. My teaching interests include English and academic skills.

I have been studying English since a young age, and I have been using it as my primary language for approximately ten years now. It is an important language for me both personally and professionally. I have experience learning English as a second language and using it across varied professional, academic, and personal contexts.

What my recent academic trajectory emphasized is the importance of effective communication. I consider effective communication, either in written or oral form, an essential skill that I have been developing over the past 8 years of studying in higher education. This course provides support with academic writing and presenting. It could take two different formats.

Option 1: general guidance in academic writing and presenting. This could be helpful if you have recently entered or are about to enter a higher education degree. In this case, I would provide the material, such as example essays/presentations that we can work with. In addition, I would provide you with resources that would support you throughout your academic journey.

Option 2: editorial support for your current academic work. This option could be helpful if you need support with your existing academic work. In this case, you, as a student, would provide the material, such as an in-progress research paper or presentation.

In both cases, depending on your needs or interests, the course would focus on covering the key aspects of academic writing and presenting. I consider these aspects to include rhetorical patterns or strategies, syntax, formatting, and style. In this way, my support and advice are limited to effective communication of your work and do not concern its content.

Hello parents! My name is Sandra. I am a native English speaker from New York State. I have a USA teaching license and a Bachelor's Degree in Childhood Inclusive Education (Grades K-6 and Students with Disabilities) from the State University of New York at Fredonia. My experiences include teaching at primary international schools in Belgrade, Serbia for 2 years and 3 years at international schools in The Hague, Netherlands. I have worked at two IB primary schools. Alongside teaching at international schools, I have 8 years of experience teaching English. I also have experience teaching grade 1 and 3 in elementary schools in New York State. I have taught children from 2-17 years old and adults. My students range in levels from beginners who are new to learning English, to fluent English speakers that need support or would like to further excel or maintain their fluency. Based on my experiences, I have learned to adjust my teaching style based on different students' needs, cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds, and learning abilities.

Lessons are provided to children and teenagers. Lessons are customized to the learning needs of your child. Whether that be learning English for the first time or practicing improvement of speaking, reading, comprehension, pronunciation, listening, writing, grammar, etc. Lessons can be aimed towards learning a topic such as food, animals, sports, emotions, and more.

For children who are fluent English speakers, tutoring can be given to further excel in particular areas. Subjects that interest the student such as science, history or world topics can be incorporated into the lesson to broaden their knowledge. Support can also be provided in learning organizational skills, research, and mini projects for older children. I am available to help with studying, homework, or school projects. For online learning, I use a variety of platforms, websites, educational games, and e-books to reach the learning goals of my students. Additional homework can be provided if requested.

That is why my method is a compilation of the traditional usage of books, texts, audios, and short films, combined with PowerPoint presentations full of images, interactive games, and recreation of real-life situations in which the students will naturally learn complex grammar topics while having fun. The class can be taught in English or Dutch but I am always aiming to expose the student to Spanish as much as possible so he/she can experience faster progress.

I like using the CLT methond during my lessons. I have been teaching in a Gymnasium as an intern for the past 3 years and this method is the one that works best. I really like practicing the language in useful ways that the students can later on use in their daily lives.
I would provide the material for the lessons (no need for a book). I would create or print material when needed. I would also bring my laptop if something needs to be shown. It is handy for the student to have a notebook to keep track of all the work during the lessons.
