About Me
As a physicist specialized in environmental sciences, I love sharing my passion for science and helping students get back on their feet! My goal: for you to be happy and proud of yourself for successfully overcoming a challenge.
Education
-Bachelor's degree in Physical Science (ULB)
-Master's degree in Environmental Science and Management with a scientific focus (ULB)
-Doctoral training in Biogeochemistry and Earth System Modeling (ULB)
Experience / Qualifications
Aside from giving private and group lessons, I have also worked with various science education institution on physics experiments to present to groups of all ages. The difficulty generally being induced by a level of abstraction that is too high too quickly, this allows me to find ways to make theories more concrete for students through examples or experiments.

My name is Ségolène (26 years old). I have a double degree from KULeuven with a Master of Business Administration (NL/EN) as well as the agrégation (Educatieve Master). I worked for 2 years in insurance and currently work at Odoo.

My mother tongue is French, but from a very young age, I was educated in Dutch, which allowed me to become perfectly bilingual. I love supporting my students and seeing them progress. I offer academic support in any subject but also to help them learn how to learn, become better organized, and gain confidence.

MY EXPERIENCE :

I helped several students to pass the CE1D exam in Dutch (written, oral, listening comprehension). In addition, I also assisted students with their homework and for various subjects at secondary level (Maths, Handel (commerce), Sciences: WO, NW...).
Finally, it is also possible for younger children to learn Dutch in a fun way (language games, educational games).

During a test carried out on the CLL site to assess my level (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 or C2), I obtained the result C2: "The student expresses himself appropriately in n' any situation, by dominating the linguistic and cultural elements proper to a native speaker and by knowing how to distinguish shades of meaning."

The success of students and students in science, as well as the development of their potential, is important to me. Subjects considered difficult, such as mathematics and physics, are accessible to all with determination and perseverance. I attach great importance to sharing my knowledge in these areas with others, especially high school students. Placing the student at the center of my concerns, the support I offer is in harmony with the teachers.

With 10 years of experience as an engineer, I worked in risk studies of industrial systems within large automotive and railway groups. My skills also extend to life coaching, and I am a certified master practitioner in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). I am bilingual in French and English.

With 5 years of experience as a math and physics teacher, I also offer distance learning courses via the Google Meet application, given the current context. Do not hesitate to contact me for more details.

Are you taking a mathematics exam in the second session?
I offer intensive support to review the basics, target important chapters and practice effectively on typical exercises.

I support higher education students, particularly at university, college and Solvay/ULB, to understand important concepts, redo practical exercises and practice on typical exam exercises.

My goal is simple: to help you understand the logic behind the methods, know when to use each formula, recognize the correct reasoning in a statement and gain autonomy when facing exercises.

Subjects covered according to your program:

• Limits and continuity:
Calculation of limits, indeterminate forms, left-hand and right-hand limits, limits at infinity, horizontal, vertical and oblique asymptotes, continuity and behavior of a function.

• Derivatives and function analysis:
rules of differentiation, derivative of a composite, logarithmic derivative, increasing/decreasing, extrema, convexity/concavity, inflection points, variation tables and complete graphical representation.

• Optimization:
maximum/minimum problems, economic optimization, cost functions, revenue, profit, elasticity, choice of method and interpretation of results.

• Functions with several variables:
partial derivatives, gradient, differentials, two-variable optimization, local extrema, Hessian matrix, first-order conditions and economic interpretation according to your course.

• Constrained optimization:
Lagrange method, budget constraint, utility maximization, cost minimization, Lagrange multipliers and interpretation of results.

• Linear algebra:
vectors, matrices, matrix operations, determinants, inverse matrices, rank of a matrix, systems of linear equations, Gauss's method and solving systems.

• Sequels and series:
arithmetic and geometric sequences, limits of sequences, convergence, sums, simple series and economic or financial applications according to your program.

• Integrals:
antiderivatives, definite integrals, area under a curve, simple calculation methods, graphical interpretation and applications.

• Financial mathematics:
Simple and compound interest, capitalization, discounting, present value, future value, annuities, monthly payments, equivalent rate, effective rate, loans, repayments, NPV, IRR and basic financial applications.

• Exam preparation:
reading statements, choosing the right method, identifying the formulas to use, typical exercises, past exams, guided corrections and problem-solving methods.

Method of working :

1. We quickly identify the chapters that are causing problems;
2. I re-explain the theory with simple examples;
3. We redo the important exercises together;
4. I will show you how to recognize good reasoning in the exam;
5. We construct a clear method that can be reused independently.

I don't just provide a correction: I explain the reasoning step by step so that you are able to redo the exercises without help.

I have been giving private lessons for over 7 years in mathematics, statistics, economics, and accounting. I have also tutored first and second-year Bachelor's students at Solvay/ULB in mathematics, statistics, and microeconomics as part of a university tutoring program.

My professional experience in finance and business controlling at Deloitte has also allowed me to develop a very structured approach to numbers, analysis, financial models and problem-solving.

Courses available in French or English, online or in person in Brussels or the surrounding area.

I offer private mathematics lessons for all levels from secondary school (from first to last year) up to university level (bachelor's degree).

A computer science and applied mathematics engineer (PhD in applied mathematics), I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in mathematics. I have also completed teacher training (agrégation) and taught mathematics at Collège Saint-Pierre (Uccle) as well as in two European Schools, in French.

I have the official certificate allowing me to teach in French. Although I am a native Dutch speaker, I can therefore teach without difficulty in French (and also in English).

My goal is not just to help solve exercises, but to truly make mathematics understandable. I pay particular attention to the structure of the reasoning, the clarity of the explanations, and the step-by-step progression.

I particularly help pupils and students who:
– wish to consolidate their bases
– lack confidence in mathematics
– are preparing for an exam or a transition to higher education
– want to deepen their understanding

My method is based on simple, rigorous explanations adapted to the student's level, as well as carefully chosen exercises to develop autonomy, confidence and work methods.

FOR REMOTE COURSES, I USE A GRAPHICS TABLET WITH A STYLUS, WHICH ALLOWS ME TO WRITE AS ON A WHITEBOARD, VISIBLE IN REAL TIME BY THE STUDENT VIA SCREEN SHARING.

Last year, I moved to Belgium to join my partner and have begun life as a tutor!

What I love most about tutoring is being able to target each lesson to the child, slowly building their confidence and focusing on the areas they need most support, helping them to feel confidence in their learning. I build their interests and strengths into each lesson so they feel engaged and supported. I have a wealth of experience supporting students with a range of SEND needs as well as English as an Additional Language.
