Cello and Piano lessons with experienced performer and teacher

Learning an instrument is meaningful for any aged student, whether wanting to progress seriously or to learn for enjoyment. I have all the skills to help you learn from beginner to advanced musician on cello, and for nurturing beginner to intermediate piano students. I have a Masters from the Royal Academy of Music on cello, with an LRAM instrumental teaching certificate, a bachelor Music degree from King's College London and an ABRSM performance diploma in piano. With over 15 years of experience teaching cello and piano in a range of settings from primary, secondary and prep schools, to music centres, private tuition and online, and having taught pupils from the ages of 5 to 65, I can find the strengths of a pupil, and improve any weaknesses, in technique, rhythm or intonation, and opening up the ability for expression and musicality.
Using ABRSM grades as milestones, I cover all aspects of developing musicianship, as well as establishing and improving technique on the instrument.
I am an experienced regularly performing professional cellist myself, and have many skills to support your learning and development as a musican, whatever your aims. I have a great rapport with my students, and love to see them progress and gain new skills and enjoyment as they learn.

About Me
I'm an experienced performer, playing in all kinds of settings from orchestras and film recordings, to studio recordings for bands, from cello quartet and solo cello classical and pop at weddings, to producing my own cello tracks to be used on radio on tv. With an academic music background from King's College London, as well as a Masters in performing from the Royal Academy of Music, my depth and breadth of both theoretical musical knowledge and performing experience is considerable. My aim is to impart as much of this as needed for each individual pupil to make the progress they are capable of and stretching them to reach their potential on their chosen instrument while keeping lessons enjoyable and fun, and an area of learning that pupils benefit from in many other ways.
I have taught cello and piano for over 15 years, in groups and individual lessons from complete beginner to advanced student (cello) and complete beginner to intermediate (piano), at places such as the Royal Academy of Music First String Experience, Blackheath Conservatoire, various primary and secondary schools in London, Chichester University, Mehli Mehta Music Foundation in India, and currently several prep and boarding schools in Sussex, as well as continuing to teach private one to one lessons outside of school.
I have taught complete beginner adults, returning adults, complete beginner children from the age of 6 and teens, and capable children and students. I have a great rapport with my pupils, and see the lessons as a process of development for the pupil that is far beyond learning to play the notes on the page. We will cover technique, reading rhythm and pitch, aural skills, background musical knowledge, and the ability to express ideas through music. Pupils become able to think for themselves and gain self-reliance and independence as musicians.
