My name is Matteo and I am an Italian flutist and musicologist, based in Brussels since 2010. I graduated in modern flute at 'B. Marcello' Conservatory in Venice and at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels with Barthold Kuijken and Frank Theuns in the Baroque flute. I hold a master degree in Philosophy and Musicology as well.

I hold a PhD degree in music performance at Cardiff University, School of Music.

From 2013 till 2015, I have been teaching at the Venice Conservatory "B. Marcello", giving yearly lectures and seminaries on the historical repertoire for the flute. Since 2021, I have been appointed music curator of Coudenberg Sound Box Fest, a music festival which aims at celebrating the Belgian music heritage and takes place every year at the beautiful archeological site of the former Royal Palace of Brussels.

I recorded for Warner Classics & Erato, and a soloist for Arcana/Outhere Music ('La solitude à deux. Solos and duets by G. P. Telemann' in 2018 and 'Affect is no Crime. New music for old instruments' in 2019).

I regularly play with leading ensembles and orchestras such as Millennium Orchestra (Leonardo Garcia Alarcon), Vox Luminis (Lionel Meunier), Les Muffatti (Peter van Heyghen), Coro & Orchestra Ghislieri (Giulio Prandi), Le Concert d'Anvers (Bart van Reyn), B.O.X. About Me

My name is Matteo and I am an italian flutist, based in Brussels since 2010. I graduated at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels with Barthold Kuijken and Frank Theuns in the Baroque flute, and in Musicology at the Venice University "Ca' Foscari".

I hold a PhD degree in music performance at Cardiff University, School of Music.

Rooted in an elite musical background—having trained on historical flutes under the guidance of Barthold Kuijken and Frank Theuns—Gemolo is hailed as “a leading figure in the research and performance of contemporary music on period instruments” (British Flute Society). His solo discography, released on prestigious labels such as Arcana (Outhere Music), has received widespread acclaim from the specialist press. Diapason praised his 'controlled energy, yielding an objective and brilliant vision,' while RTBF-Musiq3 highlighted his 'full, warm sonority and thoughtfully crafted ornaments.'

My goal is to provide the student with the basic practical knowledge of the transverse flute, from level 0.
Such things as learning to hold the instrument, learning to make sound from it and eventually, of course, playing small exercises and pieces.
With this base, the student will feel gradually more at ease with the instrument, and gain his/her independence.
The method I use is the same I studied when I started playing, as a young child, in the National Conservatory of Lisbon. Althouth this method serves as a guide, I will adapt my classes to the needs and goals of each student.

I am a professional flutist with over 5 years of experience in teaching. I have worked with people aged 5 to 75 and taught in five different languages: English, German, Ukrainian, Polish, and French.
