About Me

Hello! my name is Mariapaola, and I am from Italy. I am a certified teacher of the Italian language to foreigners.
Since January, I have lived in the Netherlands to be part of the European Solidarity Corps project. Here I teach Italian, English, and Russian to highly gifted children in a primary school.
I love teaching and transmitting my passion for languages and cultures because I believe that we can overcome any cultural barrier and become world citizens with this knowledge.
I fell in love with this job when I was in the United States for my internship, when I had the chance to be a language tutor at the University at Buffalo. Since then, I have done private lessons, and when I went to Russia for my Erasmus, I had the chance to teach Italian to adults.
I have experience in teaching languages to people of all ages and levels. Thanks to my young students, during this year, I could widen my horizons of teaching methods. I found out how creative you should be in teaching a language and how fun it is to do it.

I am committed to my job and always have clear objectives to enhance cooperative work
and encourage thinking and reflection. I like to take inspiration from my students' questions to improve constantly. So Do not hesitate to ask questions during the lessons.

Language is the window to a culture, and at the same time an integral part of a culture.
The overarching learning goal of my classes is for students to:
a) master English (speaking, reading, listening, writing) at different levels through various teaching activities which engage, challenge and motivate them at corresponding levels,
b) experience a different culture and acquire a different (new) perspective of looking at the world through the language they are learning.

I will provide customized learning materials and handouts, and share various learning resources.

For beginners, you will learn basic grammars and simple daily expressions.
For advanced learners, you will learn intermediate grammars with the purse of gaining the competence to conduct daily conversations and read simple articles.

Hi,

My name is Cathrine. I have completed my IB diploma at Birkerød Gymnasium. I am currently pursuing my degree in Cognitive Science and Artificial Intelligence at Tilburg University in the Netherlands.

I am originally from Malaysia but I have been living in Denmark for the past 5 years. However, English is my first language.

I am fluent in speaking, reading, and writing the language. Therefore, during the lesson, I will incorporate tasks and activities involving these 3 aspects. We will also go through basic grammar rules that will be useful for both writing and daily conversations.

I will provide printed worksheets and assignments (included in the fees of the lesson) to be done during the lesson and also as homework. Workbooks may be provided at an additional cost which you can work with on your own at home after the lesson. This is of course highly recommended for your own benefit as practice makes perfect.

In the first meeting, we will discuss further on the preference of workload and what you would like to learn.
