I started my musical path playing Euphonium and my very first period, and I always wanted to be able to play all the brass instruments. I play Trumpet in some projects of mine here in Holland, for Jazz and Pop bands, and I’m studying Trumpet in a musical way to be professional in stage with it.

My classical studies gave me a good knowledge about the “Brass Technique”, mainly for Trombone, Trumpet and Tuba. I can teach you how to make sound in the proper way to don’t have any problems in the future, and we can find out together what you need to reach the level you desire.

I can let you try the Trumpet in your lesson, but I do not have the other instrument, in the case of Euphonium, Flugelhorn, Horn and Tuba, you must bring your own instrument from the beginning.

In this course we will take car about the quality of the sound, the way you make sound, general techniques and develop of musicality. We will always touch some things such Ear Training, Singing, Breathing, our goal is to reach an healthy way to play, developing all the musical skills you need.

About Me

It is essential for me to teach by transmitting serenity and a desire to challenge ourselves in personal musical growth. When we play music, we do not have to think about technical stuff of mechanical issues, we need to think about music, art. This is the approach I want to give you, developing all the technical issues (such ear training, breathing, body posture and instrument technique), we can think about just to having fun while we are playing, and that’s what makes difference from a “Instrument Player “and a “Musician”!

My experience of Classical and Jazz studies, and the numerous masterclasses carried out throughout Italy and abroad, allow me to have a good knowledge of the various techniques to play the different musical genres you wish to learn or deepen.Classical studies allow me to know exactly how to produce a beautiful sound from the instrument and stay relaxed, jazz studies and my experiences in almost all musical genres, allow me to teach you how to remain flexible mentally and physically.When you get to the point where when you play you just have fun, you have serenity and you only think about the music, then it means that you have had a good teacher!

Very important for me is to make a good relationship between the student and the teacher, I want to be your guide, but this is an exchange of ideas and energy, like everything in our lives, WE are in the same page, together to love music.

OVERVIEW

Matteo is a versatile musician who has been exploring different types of music, intruments and musical approaches since the beginning of his musical career.
During the years he plays with numerous symphony and opera orchestras, but also collaborates with pop music festivals, jazz, blues and rock&roll musicians with whom he tours all over Europe.
Among the musicians he has collaborated with are Yamandu Costa, Adam Rapa, Dianne Reeves, Matthew Lee, Fabrizio Bosso, Giovanni Sollima and many others.

His active projects include the quintet collaboration with the jazz icon Enrico Rava, the surprising trio "The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance", the dixieland group "The Fried Seven" (winner of the Kerel van Eerd Music Award 2021) and his leading project "W O R D S".
He also has to his credit collaborations with Dutch TV in the most-watched show in the Netherlands 'Even tot Hier' (winner of De Ring 2022) and collaborations with singers such as Dennis van Aarssen and Jhonny Rosenberg, also through the 'BOSCO jazz and pop Orchestra'.

In Italy I taught in 4 different schools of music, there I had the opportunity to gain a lot of experience with students of all ages and all levels. I have had many children pupils, who approached the trombone or another brass instrument for the first time, as many amateurs of all ages who needed a guide for their path, but also adults with a great knowledge of music, who wanted to perfect themselves and find inspiration to cultivate their passion.

If you are approaching the Trombone for the first time, there are NO requirement, book your lesson and you will try the instrument at my place, then if you want to progress you will need to buy your own instrument. If you are an amateur or you already study in another school but you want to perfect yourself or you need any help for any issues, just come by and we will see together your level and what you need to improve. Many masterclasses all around Italy and abroad taught me that every student is different, and a teacher can change your life just by saying the right sentence, we will work together.

I have several methods to study any technical issue of the trombone, and a lot of inspiring exercises, we will find together the books that fit you better. To have a proper education, I take care about ear training, singing, and of course breathing and body posture as well, I want you to feel good with your instrument and to approach to the music in a relax and funny way.

For young beginner, the lesson will focus on inducing interest of playing the instrument through games and sounds that they interested in. Apart from instrumental basic techniques, basic musical theory will also be another main focus for the lesson.

For intermediate students, half of the lesson will focus on strengthen the basic technique and enhance the musicianship.

For Advanced students, the lesson will focus on refining the the advance technique and musical ideas.

Trumpet Lessons The Hague - Delft
Music is an important part of anyone’s life at any stage, which is why I believe teaching an instrument should be made available to all ages. Whether you have a young child who has developed an interest in the trumpet, or you are a working professional who just fancies a new hobby, or anyone in-between, I will develop lesson plans tailor made to you. Learn to improvise, develop your creativity or even play classical concerto’s!

Classical - Jazz - Pop
From the age of 7, I trained as a classical trumpet player, and then developed an interest in jazz at 13. I have a Bachelors in Classical music from London, and a Jazz Bachelors and Masters from the Netherlands. You can therefore feel confident that no matter what your interest may be (perhaps you don’t even know yourself yet), I can give you high quality training in your own interests.

What to expect- Beginners
For beginners, I take the time to let you get acquainted with the trumpet, learning repertoire, simple theory and technique, gradually moving to more advanced studies and incorporating jazz into the equation.

Jazz Basics
My jazz lessons start with the basics - learning simple music theory and harmony, the appropriate scales and getting a taste for the jazz language, common repertoire and the tradition.

Challenge
As you advance, we will explore more challenging rhythm, harmony and melody. Learning musical transcription (the process of writing down sounds on to paper) is crucial for development and also covered in lessons as well as mental-practise. For trumpet players the true key to success. Of course, my lessons are always friendly, relaxed and personal!

Intermediate - Advanced
My lessons consist of trumpet technique, i.e gaining the facility to be able to meet the demands of professional trumpet playing and the knowledge to deal with the daily struggles of what is essentially a very a demanding instrument.

Breathing Embouchure
This of course includes breathing, posture, embouchure, articulation, long tones, sound production, flexibility, finger dexterity, endurance, scales/arpeggios, sight-reading and ear training. It is important to develop everyday fundamental routines: keeping in shape, as well as devising formalised structures within trumpet practise. The often heard phrase goes - it's not how long you practise but how and what - which is incredibly relevant to trumpet players.

Flexible and able to travel
I live in the Hague and teach from my apartment, but am happy to travel to another location if it’s convenient!
Home lessons in Delft may be arranged.

About Laurie
Born and raised in the colourful and vibrant seaside city of Brighton (UK), Laurie began playing the trumpet aged 7 and grew up playing in the local Brighton and London music scene. He studied classical music at Royal Holloway University of London where he graduated with honours and won the Dame Felicity Lott award for performance in 2014. Since then he has resided in the Netherlands playing and studying with many musicians from the Dutch and European jazz scene. In 2016 he graduated from Codarts Conservatory Cum Laude having studied formally under the Dutch jazz-master Jarmo Hoogendijk amongst others.

In 2018 he graduated with a master’s degree from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam receiving the highest mark ever to be given by the department. As a band-leader his quartet received 3rd place at the Leiden Jazz Competition in 2016 and in the same year made an appearance at North Sea Jazz Festival. In 2018, his quintet was selected as finalists of both the Keep-an-Eye Jazz Awards and the prestigious Dutch Jazz Competition. To date he has made numerous appearances at jazz venues and festivals in and around the Netherlands and currently resides in The Hague (NL) teaching students, giving performances and making music with friends.

Welcome! My name is Caleb and I look forward to working together in lessons online or at your home around The Hague!

My teaching is customized to support each student's musical goals. Prior to moving to The Hague, I spent five years teaching group and private lessons for a variety of arts education organizations in Philadelphia (USA). In each space, I create safe and fun learning environments for students by maintaining a consistently supportive demeanor and by using positive reinforcement to encourage student behavior and growth. I’m patient, and empathetic, and maintain a firm belief in all students’ capacity for improvement and success.

In the lessons, we will focus on creating a beautiful, efficient, and flexible sound through various exercises and musical pieces. I will facilitate exploration that leads students to learn about effective learning habits and to be able to self-identify what they can do to improve. This helps students become their own teachers – an essential skill for improving in music, and also relevant in many other areas in life.

A bit about me:
Originally from Indiana (USA), I have performed professionally with the International Chamber Orchestra of Puerto Rico, with organist Clara Gerdes at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, and with members of the American Brass Quintet at the Aspen Music Festival. As a baroque trumpeter, I have performed with The Sebastians, the Philadelphia Bach Collegium, with members of the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, and with the Jeune Orchestre de l’Abbaye and Philippe Herreweghe at the Festival de Saintes. While attending Curtis Institute of Music, my colleagues and I won first prize at the National Trumpet Competition (USA) in the trumpet ensemble division.

As a passionate advocate for music education and arts access, I served as an ArtistYear fellow, teaching sixty-five recorder students at Powel Elementary School in Philadelphia during the 2016-17 school year. I have also served as a teaching artist for Jazz Aspen Snowmass and Philadelphia’s Play on Philly.

As a founding member of The Brass Project from 2016-2018, I premiered over thirty new works written for the ensemble. During this time The Brass Project was featured by Santa Fe Pro Musica, at National Sawdust, and at Music from Angel Fire. Our debut album, “Cityscaping,” was released in December 2018.

I recently graduated with a master’s degree in baroque trumpet at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. I earned an Artist Diploma at the Curtis Institute of Music, and a bachelor’s degree at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music.

My name is Miguel Valles and I am a trumpet player and music educator based in Den Haag with a Master’s degree in Classical and Contemporary Music from the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, as well as a Bachelor’s degree from ESMUC (Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya) in Barcelona.

As a performer, I have collaborated with several prominent orchestras such as Het Balletorkest, , Residentie Orkest , NJO Orkest , NASKA . Alongside my performance experience, I have developed a strong passion for teaching. I have worked as a trumpet teacher at Hamelin-Laie International School, Gras i Soler School, and Esplugues del Llobregat Music School in Barcelona, where I taught students of different ages and skill levels.

I am fluent in both English and spanish, and I am currently studying Dutch. My teaching approach is focused on developing both technical skills and musical expression in an engaging and student-centered environment.
