University Mathematics 1 [first year, suitable for all sections]
From 75.01 C$ /h
CONTENTS :
This course is aimed at university students, in the field of mathematics. This course is also suitable for students at EPFL as well as students of mathematics and physics), but also for faculties of economics (except economic mathematics), or medicine for example.
The goal is simple: to help you understand by yourself and acquire an intuition of the desired mathematical concepts, as well as the resolution of the exercises.
The courses cover a number of subjects. The student chooses the desired branch (the choices are listed below (*).
Additional drills can be provided upon request.
(*)The topics covered in this course are:
-Analysis I, Advanced Analysis I [one-variable real analysis, integration, etc...]
-Analysis II, Advanced Analysis II [real multivariate analysis, integration, differential equations, etc...]
-Linear Algebra I [linear maps, matrices, determinants, diagonalization (AL2), etc...]
-Advanced Linear Algebra I [AL1, dual spaces, multilinear forms, groups, rings, fields, etc...]
-Advanced Linear Algebra II [Gram-Schmidt, Orthogonality, Sylvester, SVD, QR, MSA, Jordan, SEDL, Hermite, Smith]
-Algebraic structures [Basic logic, sets, equivalence relations, classes, quotients, groups, etc...]
-Discrete mathematics [combinatorics, generating functions, basis of graph theory, probabilistic approach]
Note: For more information regarding the contents of the topics, we can discuss. The courses are flexible.
SIZE:
The course can be given face-to-face in the Lausanne region (preferably Renens / Ecublens) or Geneva (preferably center) depending on my travel availability (this is to be agreed by message with me directly, this option only appears by default in my schedules available below). Otherwise, the course is generally given by Zoom with screen sharing where I generally write by hand).
The notes during the course are sent to the student after the course is completed in PDF format.
For more availability, please contact me.
The courses are based on my experience (EPFL, mathematics section).
Hoping to be able to help you.

About Me
I am a sportsman, I love skiing (also ski instructor during the holidays), but also fitness in general (running, physical strengthening, etc ...), wrestling and cycling.
I also like drawing and building (mainly robots) and computing.
Without "counting", of course.... mathematics!

Education
I am a mathematics student at EPFL. I have a particular interest in theoretical probability and analysis in general.
I followed my college/Gymnasium in Geneva.
(as well as the Geneva Conservatory of Music for the piano)

Experience / Qualifications
I always liked to explain, then I started by giving lessons to friends in need, as well as refresher courses. I now wish, in my spare time, to teach for a wider sphere.
I have three years of experience in tutoring, a plus of a year on this platform.

FOR WHOM, FOR WHAT:
This course aims to provide a framework for the preparation of future students at EPFL.
Many students are preparing for the start of the new school year at EPFL, but many of them are lost and don't know where to start. Some drag gaps from gymnasium/college with them, which prevent them from starting to learn/relearn math and physics and prepare well for the start of the school year. In this course, I propose to supervise the student in his preparation.
This course is adapted to the level in mathematics (standard and advanced) and physics (standard) of all sections of EPFL*.
CONTENTS :
The course aims to adapt to the needs of the student. In particular, it is common to:
- resume gym/college classes
-identify and address remaining gym/college gaps
- Fly over new subjects (the goal being not to be surprised when introducing them to the university)
-Work on certain subjects in advance
-Develop a work strategy and get organized
-Share experience/give advice
-Present the exam modalities (within the limits of my knowledge)
Note that the courses are flexible.
For more information on course content, please contact me to discuss.
REMARKS :
-> This course aims to give a boost to future students at EPFL. It does not in any way guarantee the success of the student (obviously).
-> This course is often given in support of the book "Know how in mathematics"
-> The course is based on my experience (EPFL, mathematics section).
