I have a Master's Degree from Multimedia Composition at the Janáček Acadamy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno. I have made music for several ensembles, theatre performances, dance performances, short time movies, sound effects/field recordings for videogames, having my alternative music production at the same time. I used to work in several theatres in live sound-engineering and for more than one year I was leading one of the best recording studios of our country as a sound and recording director (esp. jazz, classical music, experimental music).

Hi,

I am here to help people with music and sound composition. To enlarge the ways of thinking and make your work faster and less stressed or worried, which is usually one of the biggest troubles. It is important to learn, at some point, but it is also important to learn how to take it easy. I love to teach through the discussion, listening, giving feedback, and exchanging experiences.

Education

I have a Master's Degree from Multimedia Composition at the Janáček Acadamy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno. I have been a multiinstrumentalist (piano, recorders, analog synthesizers, atc.) and also work with sound or interactive systems.

Experience / Qualifications

I've recently finished my Music Education degree (perfect timing, right?) so I'm looking to fill my schedule with more students.

My main instrument is the guitar, classical variant, but I have a vast experience in acoustic guitar, mainly rock/grunge styles (although I am familiar with many genres).

I can also introduce you to bass guitar, drums, and piano/keyboards.

And of course, everyone's favourite, Music Theory! Reading sheet music, ear training, chord progressions, composition, you name it.

I am portuguese, but due to years of video gaming and book reading I'm perfectly fluent in english, so I can teach in both english and portuguese.

My teaching method is in line with and according to the student's objectives, always seeking to exceed their expectations. Depending on the level of experience, I always try to maintain a rigorous method, or a looser one, depending on what is desired.
From 0 experience to a more advanced level. If the student is enrolled in a Conservatory, I follow the institution's learning parameters. I teach classes preferably at my home, or online.

Having a home studio setup is essential for recording and developing your ideas but It’s very easy to get stuck if you haven't developed the right skills. Youtube is packed with tutorials but if you want to get your music to sound exactly the way you want it, personalised music production lessons will save you a lot of time and effort.

I am a professional music producer and mixing engineer with 10 years of teaching experience. I taught in different schools such as Abbey Road Institute, United POP and Catalyst.
I am offering private lessons as well as an extensive mixing and mastering course in your DAW of choice which includes weekly tasks and regular feedback.

We will go through music that you already produced and find out what can be improved. We’ll focus on the right way to use EQ, Compression, Effects and Automation. We will also go through basic music theory and also cover the basics of synthesis which will enable you to fully program every synthesizer and understand how each parameter relates to acoustic sound reproduction.

Professor with extensive international experience, graduated as a composer and arranger, master in aesthetic education with a specialty in language and musical teaching for conservatories, offers classes in electric guitar, acoustic guitar, electric bass, drums, harmony, musical language, musical appreciation, musical production, composition, arrangements and musical analysis.

Lute classes for all levels. The course will focus on basic techniques (right hand figueta, left hand scales), reading tablatures (Italian, French and Spanish), and developing repertory, starting from early Italian renaissance up to late baroque. The course also provides basso continuo classes (figured bass technique of harmonizing early music).
My approach aims to stimulate the reading from the original sources, both tablature and basso continuo, but I also use modern versions (Tree Edition´s books).
Early music methods: Diego Ortiz, Milan and Narváez treatises.
Modern methods used: Pascale Boquet and Andrea Damiani
The course can also provide theoretical classes, in the case the student may need.

John is a professional drummer, teacher, composer, and sound designer with over 20 years of international performing and teaching experience, now based in Porto.

He has taught over 250 students, guiding them through internationally recognised Rockschool and Trinity College London programmes, achieving a 100% pass rate from Grades 1–8.

Alongside teaching, John has built an extensive career as a performer, touring across the UK and Europe and performing at festivals such as Bloodstock Open Air. He has shared stages with artists including Blaze Bayley (Iron Maiden), Dave Evans (AC/DC), and Phil Campbell (Motörhead). He has recorded at studios including Parr Street Studios and Graceland Studios.

For seven years, John worked as Drummer and Musical Director at the Forum Theatre, leading live productions and working closely with performers—experience that now feeds directly into his teaching.

He also works professionally as a composer and sound designer, with his music featured on BBC, NBC, Sky Sports, Discovery Channel, and PBS, as well as campaigns for brands such as Nike, Kellogg's, and Babbel.

John holds a First-Class Honours degree in Composition & Performance from the University of Salford, where he studied under respected drum educator Dave Hassel.
