In this class we discuss and study the AS and A2 Politics and Government certificates by AQA and OCR, which explores themes, topics, and debates regarding parliamentary politics in the UK, and federal politics in the US. We also explored themes of gender, immigration, and unions through the lens of Liberalism, Marxism, and Feminism.
I am educated to Masters Level in Political Science from a Redbrick University (University of Leeds 2019), and received a A* grade in Politics in 2010, and have taught GCSE sociology and A level Politics for 3 years whilst at University.
The lessons are structured around core themes in political theory. In EVERY lesson we use worksheets, discussion points, multi-media such as music and films, and I set homework if needed, all lessons are tailored to your needs exactly!
1) In beginner lessons we explore the basic set-up of parliamentary politics, core democratic principles, and other ways of managing States and Nations . Essays will be built around ensuring you have understood these basic principles, and I offer written feedback within 5 days.
2) Intermediate lessons are structured around questions that actively compare political systems, and we then begin forming arguments about political systems, and the ideologies that motivate them. We begin to read and explore major theorists such as Marx and Locke, but you are only required to explain what theory they advocate at this level. Essays will be built around ensuring you have understood how to form basic arguments, and I offer written feedback within 5 days.
3) We explore the validity of sources and theories within politics, and actively debate the philosophical and moral theory present needed to get a great mark in this A level. I expect you to be able to actively discuss theorists their views, and compare and contrast them by forming thoughtful arguments. I set specific essay questions that are similar to themes in your final exams, and offer critical written and in person feedback.
I am passionate about improving your grade in Politics, and am able to work with all level of students to bring out the best in them, by offering structured feedback, in which I will set out exactly what you need to do to get a high grade.
