Extra information
Students of mine in Mongolia after 3 months, achieved 50% As and 50% A*s in Chemistry. In Kuwait each summer my students came top in each science each year I was there.
I have qualified to teach and assess all three sciences for IB Diploma Studies and assess coursework for AS Physics, GCSE Science and Biology to A-Level.
I have worked for Cambridge International Examinations teaching the teachers in Mongolia for IGCSE Chemistry delivery for the Mongolian Ministry of Education. I also worked for the Abu Dhabi's Ministry of Education improving Science teacher performance and in Kazakhstan for improving Biology teaching.

About Me
While at The British School, Manila, and in Doha (as Head of Science), I was successfully involved with schools developing into secondary education. In Manila I taught 55% of the timetable for Years 7 and 8 delivering Science, Maths, ICT, Geography and RE. In Kuwait, along with Biology, I have been teaching Chemistry to IGCSE and Physics to AS-Level. As a Biology Teacher, I’m proud to say I have had students come top for Kuwait in Physics and Chemistry Edexcel IGCSE (while being responsible for the Physics Curriculum) in the previous four summer exam sessions plus excellent AS Physics results. This has involved practical outings to mangroves, fishing surveys of coral heads, pastureland surveys, dissections and visits to Nobel Laureate lectures. I love a practical approach to science and statistical analysis of results.
In Kazakhstan (on an educational reform project) I was dealing specifically with high achieving Biology students. I designed the lesson plan format that was accepted across Kazakhstan and stood in for the International Team Leaders in their absence. In Mongolia, I was selected by Education Development Trust (a.k.a CfBT) to work for the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). There, for IGCSE Chemistry, in 3 months, I raised the levels of the class of 21 from Es and Ds to 50% A and 50% A* in the final exam. These were projects to improve education techniques in an environment where English was a second or third language for students and staff.
I enjoyed developing CPD on general teaching and learning issues when working for Abu Dhabi Education Council as a Partnership Teacher for Science, including identifying students requiring support. There, I also lead a Health and Safety committee after doing much research into the UAE systems being implemented for EDT. This was additional to the environmental schools initiative of the AD Environment Agency.
As Head of Secondary Science, I enjoyed building up the department from scratch, planning and managing the large budget it needed. The department expanded under my leadership and across the school I organized daily cover rosters, timetabling, observed many lessons.
I have been successfully teaching, assessing and leading courses such as: Science from Years 5-13 in the forms of KS3 SATS; CIE Checkpoint Science; AQA/CIE/Edexcel IGCSE Coordinated Science, Biology, Physics, Chemistry; CIE/ IB Dip/ Edexcel AS/A-Level Biology; Biology, Chemistry and Physics. I have completed the CIE Assessor Training for Biology, Science and Edexcel AS/A-Level Physics, IBO Chemistry, Physics and Biology training courses, as well as doing the preparation for the IBO inspection and approval as an IB Diploma school.
I believe that I know and understand what it takes to produce excellent lessons and learning among students, as I had for the last 4 years, students from my teaching groups come top in Kuwait with Edexcel Separate Science IGCSE qualifications.
I attended GROW model coaching sessions with Nick Austin and Richard Churches when with CfBT in Abu Dhabi and have used the model since when advising an improving the performance of teachers in the UAE, Mongolia and Kazakhstan, as well as when mentoring junior Physics teachers in Kuwait, where I was in charge of the Physics IGCSE and AS/A-Level delivery, alongside my Biology delivery.
In Mongolia I assisted the Chemistry staff in raising standards from a baseline test of mostly Cs, Ds and Es to final exam results of 50% A* and 50% A in the Separate Sciences, and getting the Chemistry teachers to attain Introductory Course - IGCSE Chemistry (0620) (an online CIE course http://training.cie.org ).
Over the 5 years I was in Kuwait, I assisted my step daughter (Sara King via online tutoring), through her GCSE and A-Level studies (at Durham Sixth Form Centre) to enter a pharmacy degree course at Newcastle University, and been teaching to UK standards in Kuwait with Edexcel IGCSE and AS courses. I am now based in England and wish to contribute to improving standards here after several years of improving them for overseas schools.
The main aim of my previous teaching post was to support and raise the quality of teaching, learning and attainment of students in science with a particular focus on Biology and Physics departments to meet school needs. I would also:
• Collaborate with colleagues to support the development and enhancement of the teaching practice of all school staff.
• Work together with teachers to improve transition between schools, to encourage networking and where necessary work in other schools as directed by the Head Principal and Principal of Secondary to enhance provision or provide specialist expertise that may not be available in another team.
• Assist colleagues to improve their approach to planning, teaching and assessment across the curriculum, promoting differentiation and planning for students with additional learning needs
• Support the science team in preparing and organizing lessons in partnership with the school teachers, following the Edexcel guidance, in consultation with the Head of Science.
• Provide advice about the contents of what is taught in an appropriate manner through the selection and use of appropriate curriculum resources and methods.
• Advise on how lessons can be planned to cater for different learning styles, to ensure the appropriate inclusion of IT within subject planning and to maximize student activity and engagement.
• Support colleagues in producing and locating appropriate resources in addition to textbooks.
• Advise on appropriate standards of classroom management and discipline by deploying a range of approaches to create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and safe environment for learning.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the principles and methods of assessment of and for learning by a range of strategies including the evidence produced through baseline, pre and post tests and using effective questioning techniques to check what students have learned.
• Under the direction of the Principal of Secondary, support teachers in additional curriculum areas when need has been identified through school self evaluation or to respond to issues arising during monitoring agency feedback.
While unable to teach due to Covid19, I have been working in a histopathology laboratory getting re-registered as a Biomedical Scientist. I am organized, with an optimistic, cheerful attitude. I do act professionally in all dealings with students and staff. I want to add to my experiences and have much to offer. I aim to enhance the learning and achievement of students, as everyone has a potential that can be achieved, and should be given all the help and opportunities needed to reach it.
