In this subject, we will explore legal and ethical concepts and dilemmas within medicine and healthcare. The course will introduce students to key issues governing the boundaries and obligations within healthcare. This is a dynamic area of law that is regularly the subject of public debate because of the morally contentious nature of many issues within healthcare. While statutes have been created to regulate some issues, such as abortion, other legal dilemmas have been determined by the courts, drawing from criminal, civil, public, and human rights law principles. The course examines how moral and ethical debates have influenced, or been influenced by, the law. Students will reflect critically on the relationship of morality and the law in relation to areas of conflict, such as autonomy v paternalism.

We are all patients at some point in our lives, and so in addition to the academic, intellectual, and professional benefits of studying this area of law, students will gain an appreciation of their rights as a patient, and how the therapeutic obligations of health care professionals are regulated.

This subject will be of specific interest to law undergraduates and healthcare and social care practitioners, in particular.

The authenticity of an exchange. In a society increasingly rooted in a competitive approach, where automated exchanges with Artificial Intelligence cannot replace the need for human interaction, this is precisely what we lack.
As a lawyer by training and an independent legal consultant, creating "Le Droit" is a breath of fresh air. Hello! I’m a law tutor who specialises in Edexcel International A-Level Law — and my goal is to help you truly understand the subject, not just pass the exam. To do that, I bring more than a textbook: I’m also a practicing lawyer with experience in courts, consulting, and private client work. During my studies, I have also taken part in international law competitions, academic conferences, and published legal articles. I often draw on real cases and examples from my own legal practice, so abstract rules become concrete and memorable. At the same time, I’m completing my law degree at a leading Russian university, which keeps me closely connected to modern academic standards and exam expectations.

What I bring to our lessons is the ability to show how legal rules work in real life. I’ve worked in courts and advised businesses, and I use those experiences to make Edexcel topics like negligence, contract formation, or human rights feel tangible rather than abstract.

A big advantage of my background is that I’m equally comfortable in both the Romano-Germanic (continental) legal tradition — including its public law and private law dimensions — and the common law system.
