With 8 years of teaching experience, I'm Honami, your dedicated Japanese coach.
My motto is: "Turning your Japanese learning into life-changing 'options'." I am more than just a language teacher; I am a partner committed to helping every student achieve their goals, especially conquering the JLPT and mastering practical travel conversation.

I am the founder of HONAMI'S JAPANESE LESSON and a qualified Japanese language teacher, originally from Japan, and currently supporting students based in Australia and beyond.

I have been teaching Japanese since November 2017, working with a wide range of students from children to adults. My students include those who are learning Japanese for travel, as well as learners preparing for studying in Japan, scholarship applications, and JLPT exams. I also support students who prefer structured learning using textbooks such as Minna no Nihongo and Genki.

My teaching approach focuses on helping students not only understand Japanese, but also use it with confidence. I place a strong emphasis on balancing grammar and conversation, so that students can explain ideas in their own words and apply what they have learned in real situations.

Having supported many learners from different backgrounds, I understand the challenges of learning a new language. I aim to create a supportive and flexible learning environment, where each student can learn at their own pace and feel encouraged to keep progressing.

Through learning Japanese, I hope to help my students expand their opportunities in life and feel more confident in pursuing their goals. Looking ahead, I also hope to offer immersive experiences in Japan, such as language support tours, where students can use their Japanese in real life and connect more deeply with the culture.

As I continue to develop my work internationally, I am currently transitioning my business operations to be fully based in Japan from June 2026, while continuing to support students in Australia and globally.

To the uninitiated, a grammar book seems to be written in another language because the meaning of the words is incomprehensible. In a down-to-earth way, I'll translate the grammar into familiar words. With my tailor-made teaching you will accelerate your learning while having a positive mindset.

Learning a foreign language is not a linear process that consists of memorising a list of words, and speaking a foreign language is not an oral translation exercise.

There are two types of approaches to acquiring knowledge:

When asked what year follows 1999, you can immediately answer 2000 without having to think for a long time and, above all, without having memorised each number individually, starting with 1, 2, 3 ... You know that numbers are formed according to a certain pattern. With only ten digits, you can form an infinite number of numbers and always know which number comes next.

When it comes to the alphabet, words and sentences, it's more or less the same, but school pedagogy, school textbooks and regular lessons still follow the rote learning approach. In the lessons I propose, you will learn to use patterns because this is more efficient and faster.
