About Me
I'm Chris, a fully qualified primary teacher who has taught both in the UK and also internationally in Asia. I have over 25-years' experience teaching primary school children, especially those who have English as an additional language. I'm keen to help you improve your skills in English and maths. I love teaching, travelling, swimming and exploring new countries and cultures.I graduated from university in Australia with a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree and a Bachelor of Education degree; which qualifies me to teach in primary schools. When I moved to the UK to live, I competed the QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) award, which qualifies me to teach in primary schools throughout the UK.
I have experience working from Year 1 to Year 6; both internationally and in the UK. Throughout my career I have held several leadership positions in mathematics, assessment, and curriculum development, so I have strong subject knowledge and am very clear of the U.K. teaching curriculum.
I have worked for some top international schools in Bangkok, Shanghai and Yangon that attract families who have high aspirations for their children. I share the same expectations that children can achieve, and encourage all my students to be open-minded, think big and challenge themselves. I use a friendly, patient and supportive approach, with plenty of opportunities for discussion, practice, and use of IT to engage and make learning fun in every lesson.
My experience includes working with many children and families who do not speak English as their first language. I pride myself on building safe, caring and supportive relationships between all students and their families.

While French is often difficult because of the many grammatical exceptions, particularly regarding spelling, English is endowed with immense complexity in terms of its sounds. Whereas the French speaker complains about itchy eyes, the English speaker will have difficulty hearing you, and no, it's not snobbery; their ear has been educated in a more subtle way. The greatest difficulties in English come from its chaotic sounds, which at first seem absurd or even useless, while they are proof of the many influences and transformations of this language, which has become the de facto lingua franca almost everywhere on the planet. To simplify, English is the result of a Germanic invasion of Celtic lands, Latinized by Vikings speaking Old French from Normandy.
