Hallo!

I have two mother tongues, German and Greek, as I grew up in Germany, Hanover, as the child of Greek immigrants. I studied at the Leibniz University of Hanover and obtained an M.A. Degree in German Literature and English Language. I did also some semesters in French Literature, which makes me a quadrilingual: Greek, German, English, and French.
I’ve been successfully teaching students and adults for more than 20 years. Work basis is an adult Course Book, recommended by the Goethe Institut, and I use my own material for further Grammar or Speaking practice. I am quite traditional in teaching: I ask for homework, do some tests, and enhance speaking and I aim to progress according to the CEFR, the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. This helps those who are preparing to apply for a working license or for a University entry in Germany and need to reach CEF levels B1 or B2. Recently, I also started teaching Greek to German, which is fun for both of us. I am always well-prepared for my classes and I am really happy to meet new people who I can support in their effort.

Learning a foreign language is not a linear process that consists of memorising a list of words, and speaking a foreign language is not an oral translation exercise.

There are two types of approaches to acquiring knowledge:

When asked what year follows 1999, you can immediately answer 2000 without having to think for a long time and, above all, without having memorised each number individually, starting with 1, 2, 3 ... You know that numbers are formed according to a certain pattern. With only ten digits, you can form an infinite number of numbers and always know which number comes next.

When it comes to the alphabet, words and sentences, it's more or less the same, but school pedagogy, school textbooks and regular lessons still follow the rote learning approach. In the lessons I propose, you will learn to use patterns because this is more efficient and faster.

Learning is easy, but unlearning bad habits is extremely difficult. This makes it all the more important to learn the right reflexes as early as possible.
