About Me

Chess has been a major part of my life for more than 20 years, and I am passionate about helping students discover the same enjoyment and confidence through the game.

I am a competitive chess player and experienced chess coach who has played at a high level from a young age. I represented Ukraine at World and European Youth Chess Championships in the U14, U16, U18 and U20 categories and have also competed successfully in international adult tournaments.

My approach is personalized: I adapt every lesson to the student's age, level, personality and goals. Whether you are learning chess from scratch, want to improve your tournament results, or simply want to become a stronger and more confident player, we will build your skills step by step.

In my lessons, we work not only on openings and tactics, but also on calculation, positional understanding, strategy, endgames and practical decision-making. I particularly enjoy helping young players develop independent thinking, learn from their mistakes and become more confident both on and off the chessboard.

Hi, I'm Saiya! I have been playing competitive chess my whole life. As a child, I played and worked at chess for many years before finally having a breakthrough as a teenager, and I have continued to improve, even into my thirties as a PhD student with little spare time. All too many chess coaches rely on students to identify their own strengths and weaknesses and propose their own lesson plans. Of course, students are not always best positioned to identify their own strengths and weaknesses, and part of the function of a coach should be to assess the student and help them develop a study plan.

I have five years of experience teaching linguistics at the university level, and I am accustomed to making lesson plans and using proven pedagogical techniques. I have more than 10 years of competitive chess experience, with a FIDE rating of around 1825, an ECF rating of around 2013 and a Lichess rating of around 2300. My tournament results include 1st place at the Scarborough Chess Congress, 5th place in the Turkish U16 Championship and 2nd place in the Turkish University Chess Championship.
