About Me
Sophia is currently a faculty member at National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan. She began her formal music training at a young age within Taiwan’s specialized music education system. After graduating from the music program at Yancheng Elementary School in Kaohsiung, she continued her studies at Hsin-Hsing Junior High School and was later admitted to the National Taiwan Academy of Arts, majoring in flute performance.
She studied under Professors Hui-Chin Liu and Man-Nong Fan. During her studies, she furthered her training in Vienna with former Vienna Philharmonic principal flutist Werner Tripp, and performed the first movement of Mozart Flute Concerto in G major K.313 at a Chinese musicians’ concert in Vienna. She also received masterclass instruction in Taipei from the legendary flutist Jean-Pierre Rampal.
Upon graduation, she was recommended to study at the University of Kansas, where she majored in flute performance under Dr. John Boulton. During her time there, she served as principal flutist of the university orchestra and was invited by Dr. Boulton to act as a judge for the Lawrence High School Music Competition, as well as a guest flutist. She graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree and presented a solo recital. During her studies in the United States, she was also a member of the National Flute Association.
She later pursued her Master of Arts in Music at the University of Missouri–Kansas City, studying with Dr. Mary Posses.
