Music lessons can often become mundane if you're learning from a standardized curriculum and not getting exactly what you want from it! I specialize in giving students very customized lesson plans based on their unique and individual needs. The concepts I cover range from basic jazz theory, to healthy vocal technique, to performance and songwriting. Within that I work with students on developing their unique singing style, learn basic piano to accompany themselves, learn harmonization techniques and various other aspects of being a well-rounded musician.

My main 2 goals for any student is to make sure they enjoy what every session offers and learn things that enhance their understanding of music and take them closer to their own goals. Every student's musical journey is unique and I'd love to be the one to guide them it!

About Me

I am a very versatile teacher who loves working with students who are passionate about music, learning, and making progress. With the vast array of musical concepts I have knowledge and skills in, I can make music lessons a very fresh and interesting experience for students! I believe that each student aspires to improve different things and I love being able to enhance their basic knowledge of music, polish up on their niche and anything in between!

I am an active musician in Canada and have performed internationally as well. I practice everything I teach because I strongly believe in the methods that I have learnt and immensely benefitted from. In my experience I have students get disheartened from music lessons that just don't match their interests and needs so while I respect the merits of standardized courses I am excited to provide much more customized lessons for my students.

I have training in Hindustani Classical music and Western Vocal Technique collectively for 14 years, and I graduated with a music degree.
I have experience and passion for various genres: pop, jazz, r&b, a cappella, Hindustani classical, as well as Bollywood.
I have performed professionally on stage for the last 10 years in English, Hindi and Bengali, and have recorded vocals for the Bollywood movie "Wedding Anniversary" and for an Indo-Canadian venture "Surkhaab".
I have had the privilege of working with Grammy Award-winning musician Christian McBride and producer Larry Klein, as well as world-renowned Bollywood artists Shankar Mahadevan, Abhijeet Bhattacharya and Ash King.

I recently release 2 singles and am currently working on an EP that represents my unique artistry.

My name is Denise and I'm a professional singer with a singing master's degree from Catalonia's Music College (ESMUC) specialized in Historical Singing, Musicology and Music Education.
My experience runs mostly in early and chamber music, nevertheless I also have the experience and knowledge of popular musical styles such as Latin-American folk, jazz and musicals.

I teach for all levels, from children starting from zero to students who want to prepare certifications at the Conservatories, passing through amateurs or simply curious of any age.

Would you classify improvisation as composition or performance? Well actually it is both! When you improvise you are composing music on the spot, performing what you have made up at the same time as you have composed it.

For many people improvisation is a scary word and having to improvise in a group or band is an alarming prospect. However, this really does not need to be the case. As long as you have a basic knowledge of how to play your instrument you will be able to improvise. Once you know the principle of how chords are formed you will soon be improvising with ease.

The key to success is understanding chords. Once you know how chords are formed and know what notes make up a few chords you will be well on your way towards being able to improvise. We will, therefore, start by ensuring a firm knowledge of certain chords. After this we will progress to improvising a simple melody over the top of these chords. The next stage is to start using notes that are not in the chord. The process is then open ended with emphasis on developing the melody.

If you play a keyboard instrument you will be able to improvise your own pieces and be able to entertain your friends at a moments notice. On the other hand if you play in a band or a group you will be well equipped to do a real 'jam' session.

Whether you play a single line instrument (flute, saxophone, trumpet, violin etc.) or keyboard instruments, this class is for you.
