About Me
Hi! I’m Kenny, a music major at the University of Rochester with a minor in cognitive science and a strong academic background in music theory, history, and cognition. I’ve taught AP Music Theory, piano, and Mandarin to students online through Varsity Tutors, helping many improve their test scores and deepen their musical understanding. I’m also the co-founder of Homie’s Music Charity, a concert series supporting poverty relief and disability access through music. With years of experience in both teaching and performing, I’m passionate about making music theory approachable, engaging, and empowering for students of all levels.
Education
Kenny is a music major at the University of Rochester with a minor in cognitive science. He studies at both the University’s main campus and the Eastman School of Music, one of the top conservatories in the U.S. He previously trained at the Longy School of Music of Bard College, where he honed his skills in piano performance and music theory. Kenny currently holds a 3.85 GPA, is a recipient of the Prince Street Scholarship, and has earned Dean’s List honors for academic excellence. With a strong foundation in music theory, history, and cognition, he brings both depth and clarity to his teaching.
Experience / Qualifications
Kenny has extensive experience teaching AP Music Theory, piano, and Mandarin Chinese through Varsity Tutors and Musika Lessons, with a proven track record of helping students improve scores and confidence. He also serves as a standardized test instructor for TOEFL, IELTS, and A-Level courses, supporting international students preparing for overseas education. As the co-founder of Homie’s Music Charity, Kenny has organized over 10 benefit concerts, raising funds and creating musical opportunities for underserved communities.
