About Me

"My ideas for teaching saxophone is to make Music!
For having a good musical phrase you have to understand basically where each and every note is going.
Sometimes is good to forget in what instrument are we playing. To avoid some specific problems we should think about how would this music sounds with other instruments, for example with the strings or piano. For makeing this possible I do have some very good exercises!!!
Yes you have to practice!!! But if you love music and you love the saxophone, then you also love working to get better and better!!! :)

Virgo has graduated from Tallinn G. Ots Music School, from Estonian Music Academy in 1997 and from Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland in 2004.
He has won the Third prize of Estonian Republic Woodwind Competition in Tallinn (1990). In 1996 I won the First prize and also the Audience prize at the contest
“Con Brio” for young musicians in Estonia.
He taught saxophone at Tallinn G.Ots Music School, at Sibelius College in Finland and since 2001 Hes a classical saxophone teacher at Estonian Music and Theather Academy.

Ots Music School, Estonian Music and Theather Academy Symphony Orchestra, Estonian Symphonic Variety Orchestra, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Estonian Symphony Orchestra, Ohio Northern University’s Symphony Orchestra, XXI Century Orchestra and ST. Petersburg Chamber Orchestra.
He as also performed chamber music with numerous Estonian musicians in different countries. And has performed with several pop groups and artists.

Folk or classical acoustic guitar.

The teaching philosophy is adapted to the level of each individual, according to the pace of work and motivation.

For example, for beginners: Technique of the plectrum or fingers, coordination and correction of the right and left hand. Learning basic chords, simple themes, simple rhythms, reading tablatures (...).

For intermediaries: development of rhythm, construction of chords, writing of tablatures, basic notions of harmony (...).

Depending on your goals, you can learn, if you wish, to play 60 to 80% of current music from the first lessons, which often use the same chords and the same techniques. The objectives take into consideration the following points:

-Study of various playing techniques, chords, harmony, music of your choice, rhythm, with reading of tablature, teaching structured around the repertoire you like, technique of developing the musical ear
- Discovery of the neck, notes and basic positions of open chords
- Left / right hand coordination and rhythm exercises for the right hand
- Learning of different pieces of your choice
- Left hand control exercises, speed and precision
- Learning arpeggios
- Work around muscle memory
- Learning improvisation, musical play with others
- Ear training: use your ears to find chords, melodies, sounds and techniques used

- As our teacher is also a singing teacher, it is possible to combine the two disciplines: guitar + vocal instrument, and to work on synchronization, style and accuracy.

Turkish reed flute is an essential instrument of Turkish Classcial Music. It has a deep and dense culture dating from 13. century around. If you want to learn about how to perform it you first need a teacher educated by masters on this field. As of many teachers you can find online but you make sure that not every tutor meets with traditional style.
Solfege and method are inseperable parts of the lessons. So for beginners and intermediate students must follow a compotent tutor to learn about the way of classic form.

Being a singer and a singing teacher, many many times I have found myself in the situation of having to work on ear training, or solfège, or music theory... or all the above listed!
Approaching music and having no clue of these elements can totally be intimidating and off-putting, but in 2023 I feel like it’s a pity that these subjects still are looked at with such a fear. I want to prove to you that building this basic knowledge can be easy, accessible, and not heavy at all!
My program is not fixed: I’ll build it on your specific needs, whether they are preparing an exam, curiosity, or getting better at pitch matching... we will discuss it together. I have many books and materials, and I honestly prefer to draw blackboards by myself a lot of times. Everything is explained step by step and you gradually learn to read music and know the piano.

I am a classical saxophonist and music educator dedicated to sharing my passion for performance and teaching. My journey with the saxophone began at the age of twelve, and over the years I have developed a deep appreciation for both solo and chamber music performance. I strive to inspire my students to combine solid technique with genuine musical expression, helping them build confidence, discipline, and artistry in their playing.

#The lessons are highly flexible. You can choose weekly sessions or monthly reviews, and lessons can be 30, 45, or 60 minutes. I offer a wide range of music resources, and you are welcome to bring your own books, pieces, or suggestions.
I am based in Ghent, and lessons can take place at my studio or at your location, anywhere in Belgium. The schedule is very flexible and can be arranged according to your availability. I can teach in either English or Chinese. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me directly.

Throughout my career, I have performed in various concert halls such as the Tianjin Grand Theatre and the Tianjin Concert Hall, appearing both as a soloist and as part of saxophone ensembles. I have also received several national awards, including Second Prize at the National Little Golden Bell Wind Competition (2018), First Prize at the China Musicians Association Elite Competition (2019), and the Excellent Award at the “Beautiful Sound of China” National Saxophone Exhibition (2024).

Currently, I am continuing my advanced studies at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent in Belgium, working under Professors Koen Maas and Raf Minten. My teaching approach emphasizes clarity of sound, stylistic understanding, and the development of each student’s unique artistic identity.

Studying music can be a great joy and source of profound fulfillment, but it can also be stressful and overwhelming. I am in the last semester of a Masters program in Vocal Performance. Throughout the 7 years I have studied voice academically throughout my Associates degree, Bachelors degree, and now my Masters degree, I've had to learn how to develop a more holistic approach towards my music studies, and strengthen my relationship to myself and my voice. In this class, I will share everything that I've learned in my journey, and tips on how to approach practice in a way that feels manageable, and yes, even enjoyable!
