Hi, I’m Kateryna, a passionate pianist and teacher with a story that blends two worlds—language and music.

For six years, I worked as an English teacher in Ukraine, both online and offline. I loved helping my students grow, but deep inside, I always felt drawn to music. 🎶

Music has been a part of my life since childhood. I graduated from music school, studied piano for a year at university, and played in worship bands for many years. Even while teaching English, I couldn’t let go of my love for the piano—it was my escape, my passion, and my way of expressing myself.

After moving to Europe, I decided to take a leap of faith and follow my dream. I bought a piano and started a new chapter as a piano teacher. This isn’t just a career change for me—it’s a return to what makes me truly happy.

Today, I teach beginner students online, helping them take their first steps into the magical world of music. My goal is to make learning fun, inspiring, and personal. Welcome to my piano teaching studio! I am a professional pianist offering private piano and theory lessons for students of all levels. As a pianist with over 14 years of teaching experience in Europe and the USA, as well as over 23 years of playing/performing, I enjoy motivating my students with music of their own preferred style and interest, whether that be classical or contemporary. My main goal is to promote a positive experience and love for music-making during the learning process. If the student is interested in a more structured approach, I guide preparation for grades 1-8 of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) piano and music theory exams where my students consistently receive highest marks. I also have successful experience preparing students for conservatory entrance auditions, masterclasses, and competitions in the Europe, the USA, India, and Canada. We have class concerts at Pianos Maene for interested students twice per year. I am happy to provide either a more relaxed or a serious approach to learning piano, we simply need to discuss the personal goals and preferences of each student.

My own studies are as follows: I have obtained two postgraduate performance degrees at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp: "Concertsoloist" in Piano Performance and "Chamber Music” (under the guidance of esteemed professor Sergei Edelmann). Prior to this, I received my Bachelor and Masters degrees in Piano Performance/Music from the University of Minnesota - Minneapolis (with Prof. Lydia Artymiw) and Texas Christian University, Fort Worth (with Dr. Tamas Ungar). My experience includes collaboration with many different instrumentalists and singers, performing as a soloist and collaborative member in several orchestras, and receiving top prizes in several competitions. While maintaining my performance and recording career in Belgium at present, I am developing my private music studio in central Antwerp and look forward to meeting new students.

The rule is simple: don't be afraid to make a fool of yourself! Students are encouraged to try, fail, and overall be proactive in learning new information in bite-sized chunks: all of that in a warm and comforting environment.

Depending on the personal goal of the student, we will learn/refine/explore the following topics:
- Fundamental techniques of playing piano
- How to read and play chords
- How to play an improvised solo
- How to change the underlying harmonies of a song to make it sound cooler (or weirder!)
- Understanding how the musical elements are glued in a song, and if you dare, how to write one yourself
- How to learn music or play music by ear
- Exploring piano-looking-like instruments such as electric keyboards and subtractive synthesizers

Fully online piano assessment and focused follow-up lessons in English for serious students who want a clear professional view of their current level, their main technical-musical bottleneck and the next practical steps.

This is not a casual lesson. It is a structured professional assessment for students who practise regularly but do not fully understand why their playing still does not sound free, stable, expressive or convincing.

I am a Russian-trained concert pianist and piano educator with more than 20 years of teaching experience, international performance background, recordings, masterclasses and academic-level teaching experience.

I teach piano as an integrated system: sound, movement, rhythm, phrasing, memory, musical understanding and intelligent practice.

During the assessment, I look at the student’s playing as a complete musical and technical system:

— sound and tone quality
— body coordination and technical freedom
— rhythm, pulse and inner stability
— phrasing and musical direction
— articulation and dynamics
— reading and understanding the score
— voice balance, harmony, form and musical logic
— memory and reliability
— practice method and self-checking skills

Piano Lessons in Bebek, Istanbul – Children & Adults

With 15 years of teaching experience, I offer individual piano lessons for children from age 3, as well as teenagers and adults, at Poco Piano, a boutique music studio located in Bebek, Istanbul.

Lessons are individually planned according to each student's age, level, learning pace and musical goals. My approach combines classical piano training with music theory, sight-reading, ear training and musicianship, creating a strong musical foundation rather than focusing only on learning individual pieces.

For young beginners (ages 3–6), lessons are adapted to the child's attention span and developmental stage. The first goal is to build a positive relationship with the instrument and teacher while gradually introducing rhythm, pitch, keyboard orientation and basic musical concepts.

For school-age students, teenagers and adults, lessons may include classical repertoire, technique, sight-reading, music theory and preparation for internationally recognised music examinations.

ABRSM & LCME Exam Preparation

I provide preparation for ABRSM and London College of Music (LCME) practical and theory examinations. Lessons can include repertoire preparation, technical work, sight-reading, aural skills and music theory according to the student's level and examination requirements.

Conservatory & Music Theory Support

Academic support is also available for students who need help with solfège, music theory, harmony or conservatory-related coursework.

All prices listed for lessons at Poco Piano include VAT (Value Added Tax), and lessons take place at our studio in Bebek, Istanbul.

Home/private lessons can also be arranged upon request. These lessons are scheduled and priced separately depending on location and availability.
