About Me

I find it exciting to be able to pass on my knowledge I've gained through 29 years by touring, recording and teaching. I've learnt that playing an instrument and being involved in music overall very much goes alongside connecting with other people. Once you get into the industry even at the very beginning stage it is important that you are aware of those around you and those you might be working with, so I don't only teach music as being able to play an instrument at your best is one thing, but what you do with your skills plus how you interact with other people will have direct impact on your future as a musician. Many young people crave to make a career out of their passion, but they seem to be missing few key elements that can provide them with jobs.

In terms of playing an instrument I teach the practical way. I'm qualified to teach Guildhall Rockschool grades at university diploma level, but I prioritise practical and useful skills over marks. Unless it's parents requirement for their kids to pass the exams. I've met many musicians that can easily pass grade 8 at highest marks, but it doesn't mean they can play well and have all skills required to get jobs in the industry.

There are many reasons why people want to learn an instrument, so my lesson plans are always adjusted to meet individual needs of each and every student.

I have been playing oriental percussion professionally since 2010 with many groups and touring all over the world and I've recorded albums for groups such as Light in Babylon.

I am Keith, a Hong Kong percussionist based in Amsterdam and currently finishing my master degree in the Conservatory van Amsterdam. I have won several major international competitions and have great experience in performing. I have also taught privately and conducted masterclasses to inspire the next generation of percussionists.
The best thing of being a percussionist is that you can play and find music anytime anywhere! Whether if it's a timpani or your comb, you can produce so many different sounds and exciting rhythm. With one technique, you can almost play anything!
If you are a total beginner with music, percussion is one of the easiest way into it. Instruments sound nice already when you play them. Lessons start from knowing the pulse and developing your groove, to knowing the notes and establishing basic musicality. Then slowly you will explore the vast sound world of percussion, starting with drums, mallets instrument or any objects that you can think of!

A: With similar technique, you can play mallets instruments like marimba which has a warm healing sound, or orchestral instruments like triangle or tambourine. And with the rhythmic sense from learning drum set, you can literally play groove in the world, no matter if it is latin or asian or middle east! The sky is the limit!

A: Sincerity and curiosity. I hope we can have honest communication and I can offer you new inspiration every lessons.

The course method, inspired by the Agostini school (French method used in French and Belgian academies and conservatories) is divided between technique and drums. At the rate of one session each we will focus once on technique and movements outside the drums (on pads) and the other time on the drums and the application of technique and movements.

-> The technique lessons and the movements will be those of the so-called 'Moeller technique' that I learned through his direct lineage of student.
-> The drum lessons are greatly inspired by the pedagogy of the M.A.I. (Music Academy International - Nancy (fr)) and in particular that of Richard-Paul Morellini, renowned instructor.

The courses are complete, in-depth but above all specifically thought of to be progressive. They are suitable for children from 7 years old as well as adults of all ages.

=> Particular attention is paid to the movements and their correct application, to the total independence of the limbs and finally to an understanding of the rhythm and its theory. My main goal is to give the student complete control behind the drums and skills to be able to self-learn any piece in any musical style. 1 hour of weekly lessons are never enough, they should only be used to fuel the passion that will make you play at home more and more.

On demand or for advancs students:
- I am very passionate about the study of South American rhythms. Due to their complexity, apart from the samba and Baïon ostinatos, they are not included in the program before the advanced level. They can be at the request of the student.
- I am also specialized in metal (musical style) and double pedal. The latter is not included in the program unless requested by the student. The double pedal courses are based on the methodology of Virgil Donati.

As a teacher, I always work from the needs and level of the student. I believe learning music should be fun as well as practical, so I combine technique with direct application in songs and playing with other instruments. My method focuses on gradually building control and confidence behind the drum kit.

A typical lesson begins with a short warm-up and technical exercises (sticks, coordination, timing). After that, we work on grooves or fills, often using a play-along track or music chosen by the student. In band lessons, the emphasis is on playing with other instruments, rehearsal structure, and stage presence: how to play tightly together, present yourself on stage, and how to deal with issues that might occur during your performance.

My specific skills lie in modern genres such as (indie) rock, metal, pop, and groove-based styles. As a mentor and an active performer in several bands, I can share not only technical knowledge but also stage experience, rehearsal tips, and help with gear recommendation and learning about auxiliary aspects (recording drums, stage tech, etc).

The lessons are intended for students and young musicians of all levels—from absolute beginners learning their first beat to advanced players refining their technique or bands who want to take their rehearsal and live performance to the next level. - I have extensive experience in most styles of music (pop, rock, jazz, latin, funk, hip-hop, theatre, electronic)
- Played internationally with Luna, Constantine, German Superfin, Zoltan Renaldi, Julija Zakirova and also work in the musical collective of Mikhail Chekhov Theatre in Riga.
- I have been teaching for more than 5 years, and many of my students are now performing with their own groups.

A rocker and metalhead at heart, but also a fan of various styles (80s pop, funk, blues), I've been playing drums since I was a teenager... 20 years ago already! Since then, I've played in a band (ex-Minded of Heart), performed on stage (Divan du Monde, La Cigale), composed and recorded hundreds of songs, and today I'd like to share my experience with you.

My method is simple, dynamic and personalized: we will choose pieces together according to your tastes, then we will work on the techniques and skills necessary to master them.

I will help you find your own style, understand the basics of rhythm, accompany a song, play in a band, go on stage... and much more.

Among my influences are artists such as Pantera, The Beatles, AC/DC, Linkin Park...

As a teacher, I always work from the needs and level of the student. I believe learning music should be fun as well as practical, so I combine technique with direct application in songs and playing with other instruments. My method focuses on gradually building control and confidence behind the drum kit.

A typical lesson begins with a short warm-up and technical exercises (sticks, coordination, timing). After that, we work on grooves or fills, often using a play-along track or music chosen by the student. In band lessons, the emphasis is on playing with other instruments, rehearsal structure, and stage presence: how to play tightly together, present yourself on stage, and how to deal with issues that might occur during your performance.

My specific skills lie in modern genres such as (indie) rock, metal, pop, and groove-based styles. As a mentor and an active performer in several bands, I can share not only technical knowledge but also stage experience, rehearsal tips, and help with gear recommendation and learning about auxiliary aspects (recording drums, stage tech, etc).

The lessons are intended for students and young musicians of all levels—from absolute beginners learning their first beat to advanced players refining their technique or bands who want to take their rehearsal and live performance to the next level. Group lessons and beginner band coaching are also available, where we work together on ensemble playing, communication, and performing.

Ik geloof dat muziek leren zowel leuk als praktisch moet zijn, dus combineer ik techniek met directe toepassing in liedjes en het samenspelen met andere instrumenten. Mijn methode richt zich op het stapsgewijs opbouwen van controle en zelfvertrouwen achter het drumstel.

Een typische les begint met een korte warming-up en technische oefeningen (stokken, coördinatie, timing). Daarna werken we aan grooves of fills, vaak met een play-along track of muziek die de leerling zelf kiest. In bandlessen ligt de nadruk op samenspel met andere instrumenten, repetitiestructuur en podiumpresentatie: hoe je strak samen speelt, jezelf op het podium presenteert en hoe je omgaat met problemen die tijdens een optreden kunnen ontstaan.

De lessen zijn bedoeld voor studenten en jonge muzikanten van elk niveau—van absolute beginners die hun eerste beat willen leren tot gevorderde spelers die hun techniek willen verfijnen, of bands die hun repetities en liveoptredens naar een hoger niveau willen tillen. My name is Chen. I’ve been living, performing, and teaching here in Amsterdam for the last few years, and I hold both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in jazz drums from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (CvA).
I love diving into a massive mix of styles, blending everything from jazz and minimalism to rock, electronic music, and creative groove concept drumming. I truly believe that music lessons should be tailored to what gets you excited. Whether you want to master a solid practice pad routine, learn your favorite songs, build up your timing and coordination, or dive deep into advanced improvisation, we will design the lessons around your goals.

Je joue du piano depuis 15 ans, de la batterie depuis 10 ans et de la guitare depuis 5 ans. Je peux dire avec confiance que j'ai bien appris à m'enseigner moi-même rapidement et à m'entraîner sur un instrument, ce que je voudrais partager avec tout le monde. Devenir un très bon joueur ou même un virtuose est beaucoup plus facile que tout le monde ne le croit, et j'aime bien enseigner cette compétence aux gens, que ce soit aux débutants, aux joueurs intermédiaires ou aux musiciens avancés.

Qu'allons-nous faire? On va apprendre à lire la notation, improviser, jouer des pièces musicales, composer, avoir l'air cool en jouant et se faire plaisir. J'ai enseigné la batterie depuis des années en français, anglais et tchèque — j'ai aussi enseigné aux enfants à Park Lane International School à Prague, une école prestigieuse dont les élèves ont remporté cette année un concours international de musique.
