About Me

Hi, I’m Diogo, a native Brazilian Portuguese speaker with more than 15 years of experience as a language teacher, and a rock and roll singer in my free time. I teach Portuguese online to teens and adults from all over the world, and my classes are dynamic and full of conversation. We start with real situations like ordering food, making friends, travelling or working with Brazilians, and the grammar comes after, once it makes sense. Every lesson plan fits your goals, whether you’re moving to Brazil, working with a Brazilian team or just falling in love with the language and culture. ’m a language teacher with experience in two languages. I’ve taught English since 2008 and Portuguese since 2016, always working with teens and adults who want to start from zero or take their skills to the next level. I’ve taught in schools, language institutes and companies such as IBM, Accenture and Hotmart, and online to students from many countries. I’ve also prepared learners for international exams and worked as an academic coordinator, training other teachers. Having learned English myself as a Brazilian, I know what it’s like to learn a new language, and I bring that to my Portuguese classes. They’re dynamic and full of conversation. We start with real-life situations like travel, work and everyday life in Brazil, and build the grammar from there, with each lesson plan fitting the student’s goals and pace.

My name is Nicolas, and I am a Brazilian Portuguese teacher with eight years of teaching experience. I have been speaking Portuguese for about ten years now. I learned the language while living in Brazil for several long periods, both for study and work. I am currently living there again.

Having also gone through the process of learning to speak this language, I am well aware of the different stages my students go through. This helps a lot.

My lessons are tailor-made to achieve personal goals and are adapted to the specific needs of each student.

Practice is prioritized throughout the learning process in order to gain autonomy as quickly as possible. Grammar is also covered, depending on the student's level.

I’m a PhD language educator with over a decade of experience teaching Spanish, Portuguese, and Academic English at every level — from absolute beginners to advanced university students and professionals. I earned my Ph.D. in Latin American Literature and Culture from the University of Texas at Austin, one of the leading institutions for language pedagogy in the U.S. Since 2024, I have held a position as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.

I’ve taught at major universities including the University of Michigan, University of Texas-Austin, Villanova, and Thomas Jefferson University. My experience includes everything from foundational grammar and conversation courses to advanced writing, medical Spanish, Portuguese for Spanish speakers, and culturally focused seminars on race, media, and society in the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking world.
