A Beginner's Guide to English Vocabulary and How to Use It
From 42.91 C$ /h
Learning a new language is never easy, and English is no exception. Many grammar courses exist to help you with the many rules and exceptions that come with forming a sentence. However, one thing is missing. Vocabulary. Without the words we need to properly express what we want to say, what good is the grammar?
In this course, we will be learning common vocabulary you will come across in daily life using the English language. Subjects will range from foods, to occupations, to school subjects, and many many more. We will practice the pronunciation of the word itself, its meaning, and examples of how to appropriately use it in sentences.
Structure is important, but so is learning what you want to say in the first place. Let me help you to better express yourself.

About Me
Hello! My name is LeighAnne (or "Lian" if that makes it easier). I am an American citizen currently living in the Philippines. My hobbies are cooking, reading, and writing. My favorite holiday is Halloween and my favorite season is Fall. I love animals, delicious food, and books!
I have a Bachelor's degree in English as well as over eight years of teaching experience (both in-class and online). I think people should never stop learning and always try to teach themselves something new. I hope you will let me teach you something new too!

Reading is a fun and educational way to improve your language skills. However, "reading" and "comprehending" a story are two very different things. Beginners often have trouble recalling important content in a story or understanding what the story is trying to say. While good reading skills are important, merely saying the words correctly will not be enough to satisfy most schools, universities, or even future jobs. You must have a good understanding of the material itself.
In this class, I read a short story to the students (while they follow along with the reading) and at the end, they are given a short quiz to see how well they retained the material. Based on the results, we will determine what are the areas in which the student is having trouble retaining or understanding the material. From there, we can decide whether to continue studying the same story and better understand the content, or move on to new material.
Reading is more than just reciting. It's understanding. Let me help you understand it all just a little bit better.

Everyone has an imagination. Ideas, stories, inventions. The easy part is thinking of them. The hard part is thinking of how to express them to others.
In this course, I will cover the essential elements of creative writing. This will be done through a combination of short stories, poetry, and exchanges of ideas and feedback. The class will involve both your own independent work and looking at examples of other writers.
Creative writing is a powerful tool. A way to escape the world, or even make it more accessible to those around you. Let me help you put all those amazing ideas into something everybody can see.
