My name is Guy and I live in Delft, The Netherlands. I started tutoring on Preply in December 2022 and I’ve gained a lot of experience since then. Apart from tutoring, I work as a journalist for a local newspaper and as a text writer. I’ve found that I like to work with the Dutch language in a professional way, also by tutoring.

Most of the classes I give are conversation classes, with topics ranging from buying a bread in the bakery for beginning students, all the way to conversations about professional and news related topics for advanced students. I help students to gain more knowledge about the Dutch language, but above all I help them to become more confident and fluent in Dutch conversation. I teach students of all levels from beginner to advanced and I focus mainly on adults. Teenagers are welcome too.

Beginning students need a lot more explanation than advanced students, so I adjust my lessons according to the level and interest of the student. To advanced students I only explain grammar every now and then if they want, as I think they benefit mostly from practice.

I sometimes give listening and reading exercises during classes if the student likes this. These exercises can help the student recognize authentic Dutch speech or text better and are adjusted to the student’s level. For students who wish to do homework, I have made many exercises such as gap-fill and translation exercises. I also have a book from which I can give exercises and material to study.

Apart from being a native Dutch speaker, I speak English fluently and some German. I also have a limited command of the French and Spanish language.

Teaching experience:
I’ve been gaining experience as a tutor since December 2022, and it has become not only my job but my hobby too. I love to help people with learning this small but challenging language and getting to know many interesting people from all over the world in the process.

About Me

I am a true Dutch person with a great curiosity for other languages and cultures. I actually have a technical background in Water Management, but later I started following my real interests. I help students learn Dutch and do that mainly through conversation lessons. My lessons are varied and I always try to build a good relationship with my students. I currently live in Cambodia, where I also teach from.

Education

I attended primary and secondary school (HAVO/VWO) in the Netherlands. I then started studying water management at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences from 2012 to 2018. I then took various courses and worked as a freelancer until I finally started as a tutor.

Experience / Qualifications

Tutor since December 2022. During my studies, I lived in the Philippines for a total of one year for an internship and graduation. There I greatly improved my English language, so I can now give lessons from English to Dutch. In addition to tutoring, I also enjoy writing and regularly do writing assignments, which means I have a good command of the Dutch language.

DUTCH FOR FOREIGNERS - ALL LEVELS - A0 to C1 / ONLINE LESSONS VIA SKYPE.
I teach beginners and advanced students. Special training is possible for integration exams or state exams.
All frequencies possible; once or several times a week. Lesson duration: 60, 90 and 120 minutes. Most students prefer lessons of 90 or 120 minutes, because 60 minutes is considered too short. I give CUSTOMIZED lessons at the pace that suits you. If you want to speed up, we speed up; if you want to slow down, we slow down; if you want to practice more, we practice more; everything depends on your general level of education and the time you have available - outside of class hours - to study and do homework.
Classes are available from 9am to 5pm; evening classes are negotiable. The available time slots on the Apprentus website are an indication only; since I do both short and long projects, I can often schedule you in at short notice, so you can start your course almost immediately.

NT2 - Dutch for speakers of other languages: help with the integration exam, State Exam I and II

Dutch lessons for non-native speakers at all levels, from A0 to C1. All frequencies possible: once or several times a week. Lessons of 60, 90 or 120 minutes. I adapt my lessons to your pace. I teach from Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 17:00. Evening lessons after 17:00 are also possible (in consultation); + 30%.

A qualified language coach with 25 years of experience offers intensive Dutch lessons in a small class or online.

I give many Dutch NT2 lessons to expats and in preparation for an integration exam.
Specialized in guiding for the State Exam I and II. Special exam coach.

In January 2025 I will also start with groups again. We have a great classroom in the center of Rotterdam, near metro station Beurs, lessons with small homogeneous groups (little difference in level).

As soon as students want to further improve their knowledge of Dutch, I always advise and coach them to take the State Exam I or II, the only formal Certificate in this country, recognized by employers and universities.

I will try to switch to conversation after a few lessons, to put your knowledge into practice as soon as possible. Don't get too caught up in the grammar.

Teaching is my ultimate passion and even after 25 years it feels like the first time and students always feel inspired to overcome the obstacles.

I also teach you about Dutch social culture, which is intertwined in the course and is strongly related to the language.

I provide lessons for the Nt2 Staatsexamen and Dutch Nationalisation exam (Inburgering examen)and Business Dutch for ex-pats and people who want to learn everyday Dutch. In the citizenship exam course, students learn about history, geography and basic vocabulary which are the contents of the exam. They learn how to respond to basic questions. Besides preparatory lessons for (Inburgering examen ,citizenship exam ,I teach Business Dutch( Zakelijk Nederlands) to expats. Online lessons are delivered through Google meet and Ms Teams and other online platforms. The lessons are conducted online as well as at a location in The Hague. Both private and group lessons are available.

I use several methods which are specially conceived to teach Dutch to people who have a different mother tongue. I really like to use methods out of the ordinary like role games or methods with which you learn while playing. All these adapted to the student's situation of course. As I learned myself a couple of other languages, it is easy for me to detect difficulties a student can encounter and adapt the way of learning. I can teach in English, French, German and Russian.
