New Year New Hobby! Come and join me (Kat) as I create a knitting plan just for you. You won't need to make common beginner mistakes as I pass on all my tips and tricks from 20yrs of knitting experience (I started when I was 8!). I'll walk you through the basics of knitting and what you'll need for your first project, as well as hard to find free resources from across the web.

Bring whatever needles and yarn you have. Or if you don't have any yet, even better, I'll advise you on what yarn and needles would be best for your first project.

About Me

Hello there! I'm Kat, I'm a fibre artist, which is a very official way to say I spend my days knitting. I first learned to knit when I was 8 and haven't stopped since. Knitting is an incredible hobby as it caters to a diversity of needs, skills, and artisitic vision. I love sharing my unique take on knitting with students and encouraging everyone to try their hand at something new.

Education

I attended the University of Kent for my postgrad, where I obtained an MSc. For my undergrad, I attended Florida University, where I obtained a BS in Psychology with a minor in Arts.

Experience / Qualifications

I have been knitting for over twenty years, and have spent the last decade in classrooms working with children and adults across a variety of needs (both physical and mental) to help them identify hobbies and activities they enjoy while promoting educational outcomes. For the past two years, during my master's, I have focused exclusively on teaching knitting.

Macrame is a knotting technique that can be used to create many great projects from cotton yarn.

In this course I'll show you online how to get started and how to use the basic knots very quickly. You can make so many projects using these knots: wall hangings, keychains, wall mirrors, hanging baskets...

Just a nice hobby now that you have to spend a lot of time indoors.

Egg tempera is one of the most ancient historical art painting technique. It preserved as a main technique to paint orthodox religious icons. It is possible to learn it and paint your own icon. I have 12 years of practice teaching people how to do it. We work together step by step to understand the technique, the way to prepare wooden panel to paint an icon and the techniques of making a good project to make the icon fit to the board. We also learn how to make gold leaf layer on the halos. Your icon will be a real, crafted icon.

I am Rachel, an Architect / Artist and a qualified TEFL teacher.

I was born and raised in Hong Kong, moved to the UK 15 years ago so I am fluent in English, Mandarine and Cantonese. We can have classes online, or, I can babysit at the same time, at mine with my puppy and my husband, or outside in a cafe. In my classes, I teach drawing, sketching, watercolor, acrylic painting, and fundamental art techniques step by step. My main focus is building a strong artistic foundation — understanding form, perspective, light and shadow, composition, and color theory in a clear and simple way.
