How do you move from making individual artworks to developing a practice that feels genuinely your own?

I am a professional visual artist with more than 30 years of international experience. In these individual mentoring sessions, I work with artists and creative people who want to develop a more personal artistic language, deepen their ideas, or reconnect with a practice that has become stuck or uncertain.

Rather than teaching a particular style or giving you formulas to follow, we look closely at what already interests you: recurring images, materials, questions, experiences, contradictions and ways of thinking. From there, we explore how these elements can become part of a stronger and more individual body of work.

Our sessions may involve discussion of your current work, experimentation, sketchbooks, writing, research, contemporary art and art history, as well as artists, writers and thinkers relevant to the questions emerging from your practice.

We can work on questions such as: What makes your work yours? Which ideas are worth pursuing? How can you develop a concept without simply illustrating it? How can research become part of the work? How do you recognise and move beyond habits, imitation or creative blocks?

This mentoring is suitable for people who want more than technical instruction and are interested in developing an independent, thoughtful and sustainable creative practice.

Sessions are available in English or Portuguese and are shaped around each person's interests, work and creative process.
Extra information
If you already make art, please bring a selection of recent and older works, sketches, unfinished pieces or experiments that you would like to discuss. You are also welcome to bring texts, photographs, objects, artists or other references that interest you.

You do not need to arrive with a clearly defined project. Uncertainty, unfinished ideas and creative blocks can be useful starting points for our work together.

About Me
I am a professional visual artist and educator with more than 30 years of experience. I have worked full-time as an artist throughout my career, exhibiting internationally while also teaching and mentoring students of different ages and backgrounds.

My teaching grew naturally from my own experience as an artist. Over the years, I realised that many students and artists face similar questions: how to develop technical skills without losing individuality, how to find a personal visual language, how to turn ideas into work, and how to build a sustainable creative practice.

My lessons are highly personalised. I work with beginners as well as experienced students and artists, combining practical skills with observation, experimentation, art history, contemporary references and critical thinking. I particularly enjoy working with students who are curious, open to experimentation and interested in developing their own voice rather than simply copying images.

I am a professional visual artist with more than 30 years of experience exhibiting, researching and developing my practice internationally. I offer individual art lessons and mentoring for students of different ages and levels, from beginners who want to learn how to draw or paint to more experienced artists who want to develop a stronger and more personal body of work.

Lessons are adapted to each student. We can work with observational drawing, painting, composition, materials and technique, but also with ideas, references, art history, sketchbooks and the development of your own visual language.

I also work with students preparing portfolios and applications for art schools, universities, residencies and other professional opportunities, as well as artists who feel stuck and want to rethink or strengthen their creative practice.

My aim is not simply to teach you how to reproduce an image, but to help you understand what you want to make, why you want to make it, and how to develop the skills and references necessary to make it your own.

Classes are available in English or Portuguese and are shaped around your interests, experience and goals.

Are you developing an art portfolio, preparing an application, or trying to understand where to take your artistic practice next?

I am a professional visual artist with more than 30 years of international experience in exhibitions, residencies, research and teaching. I offer individual mentoring for students, emerging artists and established practitioners who want to develop a stronger, more coherent and personal body of work.

Sessions can focus on portfolio development, selecting and editing work, developing concepts, identifying recurring interests, strengthening your artistic voice, researching references, writing about your work and preparing applications for art schools, BA/BFA and MFA programmes, residencies, grants, exhibitions and other professional opportunities.

We can also work together if you feel stuck, disconnected from your practice or unsure how to move from isolated works or ideas toward a meaningful body of work.

My approach combines close discussion of your work with contemporary art, art history, critical references and practical strategies. I do not impose a particular style or aesthetic. The aim is to help you understand what is already distinctive in your work and develop it with greater clarity, depth and confidence.

Mentoring is available in English or Portuguese and is adapted to your individual goals and stage of development.
