International JAZZ GUITAR Course / MUSIC Theory / IMPROVISATION
From 86.61 C$ /h
Hello there!
My name is Rocco, I’m a guitarist and educator currently based in Cologne, and I’m offering private guitar lessons taught in English -or Italian (aber ich spreche auch ein bisschen Deutsch..!).
Here are some infos about myself:
I grew up in Italy, and graduated at the ArtEZ Conservatory in Arnhem (NL) in 2019.
During the last few years I attended the Berklee School of Music in Boston (2014), won the “Locomotive Jazz Festival Giovani” contest (2015), and played and recorded together with musicians such as Jerome Hol, René Creemers, Andre Groen, Pieter Douma and Alan Purves.
I have performed in several music festivals such as North Sea Jazz, Moers Festival, InJazz, MusicMeeting, Lowlands, Make-it Jazz, and more.
I am currently busy with several projects in the modern jazz scene in Germany and The Netherlands, while teaching in an international school in The Netherlands and having private students in Cologne.
I have been giving private lessons since six years now, both classic guitar (focusing on classical technique, reading and interpreting) and electric (mainly jazz/blues/rock vocabulary and improvisation).
- Flexible appointments (also in weekends);
- Every lesson pack is also available online, with a reduced fee;
- Available for beginners intermediate and advanced level;
- Our in-person lessons can take place either around the Cologne Ehrenfeld Station or in Eupenerstrasse.
.
Whether you are new to the instrument, or a fully experienced musician who maybe wants to confront a new improvisational approach towards complex jazz harmonies
Ciao!

About Me
Rocco is a guitar player and composer, born in 1996 in the province of Lecce, in South Italy.
After a first musical experience with electric bass, he started studying jazz guitar at the age of 14, having individual lessons for five years in his town. During this period he had the opportunity to attend several masterclasses and confront himself with some of the greatest Italian jazz players (Bebo Ferra, Paolo Fresu, Luca Alemanno, Franco Cerri and more), and he had also different experiences in other environments (Umbria Jazz Clinics in 2013 and the Five Weeks program at the Berklee College of Music in Boston in 2014, for which he won a scholarship).
In 2015 Rocco won a contest for young jazz musicians organized by the Locomotive Jazz Festival that gave him the opportunity to play opening concerts for great musicians such as Paolo Fresu, Omar Sosa, Daniele Di Bonaventura and more, and to record a live CD (the “Locomotive Jazz Compilation”) with the other winners of the contest.
His primary language as a musician and guitar player is mostly jazz, but he always had the fortune to enjoy every kind of music: the most important influences come from every genre, from the modern classical music (Morton Feldman, Schoenberg, Stravinsky, etc..) to the jazz culture (Miles Davis, Bill Evans, Max Roach, Chet Baker, John Scofield) until all the rock music from 60s’ and 70s’ (Pink Floyd, Doors, Grateful Dead, Velvet Underground, Syd Barrett etc..) including finally also reggae, hip-hop and modern electronic music.
In 2015 he decided to study guitar abroad, attending the Bachelor program at the Artez School of Music in Arnhem. Here he had the opportunity to develop his own ideas and to play in several collaborations with both students and teachers.
His goal as a composer and player is to get rid of all the labels and genres in music and just being influenced by sound and vibes, exploring new techniques and ideas that could express at their best his own concept of music.

“Music is the movement of sound to reach the soul for the education of its virtue” (Plato)
I think of music as a discipline, but it also is the most strong language we know as human being. Whatever your level is, you’ll always get something out from music, and that’s why, in my opinion, our main goal should always be, as students and musicians, just to have fun, because that’s when music works.
These lessons are for everyone who wants to develop his instrumental skills and musical knowledge: during the lessons we’ll have the opportunity not only to work on all the theoretical aspects but we’ll also put focus on the meaning of what we do and why do we do it.
The main subjects are improvisation, instrumental techniques, harmony development, music theory, how to obtain the best sound, transcriptions, music history, and of course we'll go through with any kind of request from the student.
With a conscious education, everyone can have his own musical language and his own ideas, and my job we’ll just be to make the student able to feel free and enjoy your music.
