Hi I'm Josef! I have over 15 years experience performing diverse genres including European & Celtic Folk, Balkan-Klezmer, Tango, Latin-American, French Musette, Blues and Swing. All of my classes are personalised to my students. I prepare pieces that fit your level but align with your musical loves, to push you to the next level while having fun, rather than learning from only a fixed course or book.

As a musician I've worked, toured and studied in countries including Colombia, Chile, Bulgaria, and Greece, which has given me a wide musical repertoire, collection and musical perspective that I'm keen to share!

I've worked with children and also seniors who have begun their music education later in life from little to no experience. Having played in diverse bands I can put the accordion in context and build confidence playing with other musicians, teaching techniques and music theory that can be transferred to other instruments.

My students say I'm a friendly, supportive and experienced teacher with over 15 years experience playing Piano accordion. I've taught students from advanced levels to zero musical experience, enabling people to gain confidence and play diverse Global styles.

I have 2 accordions and a keyboard in my studio for any student lacking their own instrument.

Education

I studied a degree in International Relations at the University of East Anglia between 2010 and 2013, whilst also studying music via private tutors and colleges, continuing my studies with teachers from Greece, Bulgaria and Colombia.

Hello, I'm musician/guitarist/vocalist & singersongwriter since 2004. In 2009 I finished my studies in musical production (2 years) at ETIC in Lisbon and until now I've been developing various works as sound engineer, sound designer and guitar teacher.

Creative, committed and persistent are my main characteristics as a teacher, professional with 10 years of experience in musical production, sound engineering and guitar lessons. In 2014 I decided to move to London in order to improve in a more deeper level my sound engineer and mastering technics in LondonAmp – London Academy of Music Production where he completed the Sound Engineering Certificate course. Strong communication and interpersonal relation skills, fluently in Portuguese and English.

If you love music and want to know more and do more, this is the class. We will use the piano as our main instrument and explore many different styles of music and develop your own skills as a musician. We will have theory topic along side a main piece to work on that will help deepen your understanding of how music works and explores the three big areas of Jazz Pop and Classical. The balance between the two here is flexible if you are already comfortable on the piano.

Composition starts as I write set exercises for you that we can work together on and start to piece together the different elements that go into composing music. Should you want to focus on one of these three elements more I am able to shift the balance to make a personalized experience.

I studied at High School of Music where I graduated in Formação Musical course, and Piano at Jazz School (Hot Club de Portugal) also in Lisbon. At this moment I keep going my studies at Classical Piano.
I was a music teacher in Conservatories during aproximately 11 years where I teached ear trainning and theory and where I was a Choir Conducter. I was also Department Coordinator. Now I give private Piano lessons where I teach Classical and oher kinds of music at the Piano and I also teach music theory and ear training.

Understanding music theory and composition is essential for musicians (whether performers or composers) of any genre and level. With this course, I hope to share my 10 years of experience in composition and music theory, as well as a great enjoyment for the field. I aim to exemplify the discussed theory through listening and (if applicable) playing examples, combining the established theories by discussing compositional parameters, making the playing of pieces and composing more accessible and organic.
