About Me
Seishi Teppei Jūjutsu Kai

A Living Japanese Martial Tradition

The Seishi Teppei Jūjutsu Kai is an independent traditional Japanese martial arts organization dedicated to the preservation, study, and transmission of a historical jūjutsu tradition. Rather than existing as a sport or modern self-defence system, the organization serves as a custodian of a living martial lineage which has been transmitted continuously outside Japan since the early twentieth century.

The school offers a comprehensive martial education encompassing the breadth of classical jūjutsu techniques. Students train in throwing techniques, striking methods, joint locks, chokes, arresting and restraint techniques, ground fighting, weapons defence, tanbō- and hanbōjutsu (small and short staff weapon systems), vital point studies, traditional resuscitation methods, and the strategic principles of Japanese martial arts. Technical instruction progresses through a structured methodology, beginning with formal kata and advancing through increasingly adaptive partner practice and resistance-based training, ultimately culminating in controlled free application and advanced weapons practice.

Central to the philosophy of the Seishi Teppei Jūjutsu Kai is the belief that a martial tradition should be both faithfully preserved and meaningfully practised. Training balances historical continuity with practical application, emphasising technical precision, sound body mechanics, adaptability, alongside disciplined personal development. Our organization distinguishes between technical progression within the curriculum and the formal transmission of the tradition itself, reflecting an approach rooted in classical Japanese methods of instruction.

Today, the Seishi Teppei Jūjutsu Kai regards itself not simply as a martial arts school, but as the custodian of the tradition entrusted to it. The organization maintains historical archives documenting its lineage and development and welcomes scholarly interest in its history, demonstrating a commitment to transparency and the preservation of its heritage.

Instruction is conducted in a welcoming yet disciplined environment where beginners and experienced martial artists alike are encouraged to undertake the long-term study of the art. While physically demanding and requiring dedication, the emphasis remains on steady, continuous development rather than rapid advancement or commercial goals.

For those seeking more than a modern combat sport or self-defence programme, the Seishi Teppei Jūjutsu Kai offers the opportunity to participate in the ongoing transmission of a living Japanese martial tradition—one that values technical excellence, historical integrity, and the lifelong pursuit of martial understanding.
