As a non-native, I am aware of the difficulties that one can encounter as a French speaker in learning Chinese. Some things that seem to go without saying for natives ask us for clarification and time that I needed, and that I wish to pass on in turn.

You cannot learn without understanding. Too many Mandarin teachers focus on practicing modern Chinese without teaching the etymology of the characters in order to understand the evolution of such a rich language over time. Understanding the evolution of the language and its characteristics is therefore essential for me, according to the Inalco method.

In the Chinese language, I think the most important thing is to focus on reading and oral comprehension, as well as oral practice through conversation above all. It is useless to make beginners repeat sentences over and over again, you have to make the language live.

My course is primarily aimed at beginners, false beginners and "low-intermediate", from HSK 1 to HSK 3 approximately (between 0 and 1000 known words). I can also prepare more intensively for HSK exams at the request of students. I can teach face-to-face as well as via webcam.

About Me

I graduated with distinction from the China-Japan Master's program at the University of Liege, Belgium, where I received training in languages as well as in History, Society and Civilization in order to understand Chinese civilization as broadly as possible. I am currently preparing a doctoral thesis in Chinese Studies under the supervision of Professor Eric Florence, a specialist in contemporary China.

I have always found that native Mandarin teachers, no matter how good they are, could not always understand the difficulties that we, as non-native speakers, face with such a different language. That's why I wanted to teach, especially to beginners, the Chinese language adapted to non-native speakers.

Apart from that, I'm a pretty nice teacher :D I'm against any ultra-coercive pedagogy (mountain of homework, study by heart, etc.), and I think that we only progress through dialogue and understanding between teachers and students. :) So for the shy and anxious like me, I'm in the same boat as you and I know how much this can be an obstacle to the desire to learn. I will make sure to teach and exchange with you in a way that makes everyone comfortable.

The most important thing when learning a language is to build up your own language corpus and to actually use the language in conversation and in everyday life.
Since I taught myself German, I know the subtle differences between Chinese and German very well – from pronunciation to grammar to the cultural nuances behind them.

In my lessons, I don't use traditional textbooks. I'm much more interested in how you want to learn this language.
