You will analyse the fundamental principles, the rules of proportion, those gentle relationships between the parts and the whole, which the ancients gave to the orders in ancient buildings, to those of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

To communicate your thoughts clearly, to record your observations and to find the reason for all things, you will draw, paint and engrave from nature. Drawing is a language, a means of expression and communication, an art that complements and is indispensable to all professions, such as speaking and writing.

COURSE CONTENT

Subjects: Architecture, urban planning, nature, history of architecture, history of cities, building techniques, natural materials, sacred geometry, decoration, ornamentation and many more!

Techniques: Creation of natural paints (watercolour and gouache - access to a kitchen), sketching, perspective, sacred geometry, measured drawing, watercolour, gouache, charcoal and engraving on stoneware or wood.

You don’t have to be a professional artist to have the right to create. Spontaneous drawing doesn’t require a license to draw a line. We have our own well of images inside us which can be re-activated.
But how? To draw spontaneously, a practical method, offering suggestions and advice, allow us to overcome the anxiety of the blank page.

Note: ALL SUPPLIES & TOOLS ARE PROVIDED FOR THE STUDENTS FOR THE FIRST TEN (10) LESSONS — All canvas, stretcher-bars, panels, paper, brushes, pens, pencils, ink, charcoal, paints, varnish, etc. The finished artworks are, of course, your to keep.

There are many ways to create a so-called "realistic" oil painting. And there are many visual tools that an artist can use to make a beautiful visual statement. Whether using thick impastos, thin washes of solvent-based color, bodied glazes, or mixed media elements, each technique can yield an engaging visual experience. Painting is, after all, a means of communication.

In this course, we will begin with the basic ideas and techniques for drawing and painting forms as the eye sees them. You will learn every stage for producing aesthetically pleasing and technically strong oil paintings. We will discuss concepts and ideas for painting, developing different studies, stretching the canvas, line drawing, tonal lay-in, dead-coloring (or color block-in), and modeling the forms (1st painting, 2nd painting, and finishing). We will also cover the techniques of alla prima or premier coup (direct painting in one pass). We will also study the formal methods of composition, different kinds of perspectives, paint surface and paint quality (facture), and proportions. And, of course, we will discuss the use of varnishes, including the final picture varnish.

Stay calm and confident if some of these terms are new to you. We will adapt the lessons for each artist. I will help you to learn, understand, and perform each step of the painting process.

With extensive experience in drawing workshops for children, my classes offer the creation of characters, as well as their staging in a comic strip, which will allow us to learn the fundamentals together: sketches, storyboard, inking, color and story. At the end of the course, the comic strip can also be printed in a booklet so that the student has a concrete fruit of his work.

I studied 5 years at the fine arts school in Angoulême, where I was able to perfect my mastery of drawing and storytelling. I have since participated in numerous comic book festivals, and have had the chance to publish several of them.
